Q:

5/8"x 18 TPI UNF Blodnob Valve

I went up to Blodnobs the other day he did a bit of teaching me on his CNC laithe, we edited the back half of his valve program to cut a 5/8″ thread, worked out spot on, so he’ll be able to make valves to fit various bottle threads.

Heres the vids Sean 😉

Ti Tube , failed at 570 bar . we built a weekness in so the oring failed well before tube tube failed . An air arms steel tube built to the same dimensions fails about 250 bar at the oring so you can see the strength difference f Ti over steel .

And here is a couple of ally tubes we burst

The ally tube held to about 400 bar before the tube ripped but it was dead somewhere between 300-350 bar as it had reached its elastic limit and didn`t return to size after that pressure .

Yeah. Al get it off Nutshot on the weekend and put on this thread.
Al take some pics of the tester put up too.
Very simple set up. Baz “lent” me an enerpack and i just put a 700bar bagging on and away it goes. Only 3 or 4 pumps gets it up to 3000psi.
Only downside is a plug has to be made foe each thread. I used an ally’ plug in it and the threads held up fine.
FX are ally tubes and plugs and they’re fine.
Very unenventfull to be honest.
Soon as pressure is released its all over. Hardly a pop or anything.

Did you hear about the stock maker who had a Ti cylinder go in his hand? Something about the aluminum cap letting go or something.

Not good. 😯

10k psi, that’s pretty impressive! Did you get a video? 😯 I’d love to see that! 😀 Or even the left overs. Damn!

thats right .
I also built a hydro testing rig that can go to 100,000 psi.
Built a few titanium cyliders for Airarms but wouldn’t let them go till id tested 1 to destuction.
Think it finally went at 9700ish on a 1.3mm section where the O ring sits.
They’re bombs waiting to go off. (So Theoben said before their gas ram patents expired. Then as they expired, as if by madjick they revealed the “Rapid7”)

A chap over here decided it was safe to drill the bottom of a 500cc bottle and put a QF in it.

AZ (Alan Zasadny) does it here all the time. Some guy who wasn’t AZ did it and Walter lynched him here but apparently has no issues with AZ’s mod. 😕 Have yet to figure that one out yet…

Personally i’d rather remove the bottle. My body parts are worth more than the few seconds it takes to remove the bottle and fill it…

Yeah I do it for myself. I looked into it before I did it. The 53 ci Catalina tanks I bought with 5/8-18 also can be purchased with 3/4-16 I think for scuba. 3/4″ is bigger than 18mm. When I do it, the old threads are just barely removed and then 18mm is put in. I think the hole is .080″ bigger. I make sure they are nice threads also.

Nice but you can’t use a bigger tank without getting it away from the frame with some kind of extension. To me it’s easier to put 18×1.5mm in the tanks

Quite true sir re’ the extension. Am sure Baz can chisel one out ok.
If it became a chore i could alter them to be a little bit longer to clear the frame.

But as far as re doing threads in a bottle there was a guy on the old forum that got hold of some 800cc bottles and was going to do the same to the threads for the same said reason and he was nearly lynched. 😯
I dont believe it would be a problem. But i think its most definatley frowned upon to alter a bottle in any way.

Not for me altering bottles. Ive drilled straight through one before to stop any1 using it (mainley me) when the threads got gnarled up when i took a valve out.
But each to his own.
Anyhoo. Its my bed time. I need beauty sleep more than most. (‘cept for Hoot)
Night all.

Not good ones 🙁

What they don’t have cameras that work in the UK or something? 😆

😕

Them threads don’t look right…

Got a better pic of the valve?

Send me a good camera and I’ll take a better picture 🙂

I need to get prices for the blod valves….
