Q:

50 grains or more, 2000fps any can afford this?

ThatΒ΄s the question.
Any of the members of the forum have 2000fps with 50 grains (or more)?
.22 or .25
If one of you have done this, what pellet and customization?
pure lead?
some mix of lead and?
Can we use in our LW barrels other than lead ammo?
Did you cut the choke?
What kind of valve?
Hammer?
Spring?
24″ of course.
gustavo.

The other future problem is that pushing PURE LEAD anywhere near half that speed is gonna lead the crap outta your barrel. But when you get to 2000 FPS it will be like shooting a stick of butter……..lol

Now comes the issue of using SERIOUSLY HARD CAST BULLETS to not lead the bore but then, thats gonna cause more friction in the barrel and velocity will suffer.

Hmmmmm, who’s gonna be the first to achieve this…i can here all the great minds thinking bout it right now………lol

Hi Gus….

I was thinking the same……(maybe you can reach between 1700 -1800 fps range with He)

The sabot is a good πŸ’‘ to give it a try….
But I have not a clue where to get them over here…. πŸ˜•

im getting 1058 so far with .25 cal 43 grn eunjins running just air in the next day or 2 im gonna try to do a mix of helium and air and see what happens

Fill the tank with helium and give it a go.

Theoretical maximum speed for a gas gun is ~mach 5 using an infinitely light projectile. The gun also needs a barrel length that acheives ~0 pressure drop at the muzzle and a vacuum in front of the projectile.

At least that’s according to documents on dual stage hydrogen gas guns..but it applies to all gases. One of the major problems is the mass of the fluid that needs to be accelerated along with the projectile.

No idea what is obtainable with our guns at standard temp air, but I would love to try some sabots in a .25 condor. Might get close to 2000fps with some tiny lead bullets.

I think all the info you need is here. Be warned this is NOT for the faint of heart. http://trettel.org/bags/The%20Light-Gas-Gun%20Model%20Launcher.pdf

43gr .25 @ 1029 is my highest recorded shot with a Brad valve and a 24″ barrel.

I use pure Nitrogen, fill to 2800psi.

I’ve done it lots of times, I’m just not allowed to talk about it…

Since the speed of sound in air is around 1100fps, theoretically you shouldn’t be able to break the sound barrier with just regular room temperature air. However, the Condor and a few other air rifles have been able to do this through efficient design and brute force.

I am also lead to believe that 1600fps is the maximum limit, however, just by placing one of those 0.12 gram airsoft BB’s in my .25 barrel (It is a loose fit and will roll out if not careful) I have achieved over 1600fps, so I believe 1800fps is probably the limit and that is with an insainley light projectile aswell.

Basically, a best case cenario would be a 24″ .25 barrel shooting 50 grain pellets at almost 1000fps or just into 1000fps is what is gunna happen, and that is a real powerhouse.

Thats what I see as the upper limit.

Dave

They have a hard time getting that with .22 LR ammunition, let alone air.

Unrelated, but a few months ago I overheard two “pros” at a gun shop talking about the 4000fps they were getting from their .17HMR, saying the 2500fps written on the box was “bullshit”.

I am no longer allowed in that particular gun shop. πŸ˜‰

Don’t really know, I thought around 1600 was theoretical maximum speed . Walter what’s the real numbers say about this? 1400 is probably a more real word obtainable speed. What type projectile do you propose.

Sam 😎

No where near, not with 3000psi air any ways and will never be reached with any kind of easily obtainable air pressure.
