Q:

500 Foot Pounds?

I’m not talking about my Texan matter of fact I love it like it is. But using the 405 Grain Pellets hasn’t given me the 500 FPDS as advertised. The 146 and the 166 grain Loads shoot above specs. Over 1000 FPS to 1050 FPS. I use the 457 405 grain pellets from Hunters supply, they shoot good and hit hard but no 500FPDS , far from it. OK guys tell me the secret!! LOL 😉

Received my 300 grain pellets from Pyrmid air,,Got 751 FPS at 2 feet from the Barrel. 3000 fill, second shot was in the 500 fps mark , no use calculating that one. Be it 166 grain or 405 grain or 300 grain.. about 350 Foot pounds is the max for my gun, Still like it, still gona keep it. Thanks for the help folks, But mine isn’t gona get 500 foot pounds,, but maybe just a bad gun but 350 foot pounds will do for me.. Have fun shooting..

Try to get u a sizer for .455 and some pure lead 5bhn bullets between 300 and 410grn. Then I believe you will be in buisness.

I’ll call Pyrmid in the morning and see what they can suggest.. :winkn:

What I’m trying to say is y isn’t your gun getting the full potential. I’m not trying to get into a pissing match here. There is all these reports of High fpe guns with heavier slugs. The twist rate of the barrel is designed for 300+ grn bullets to be pushed as fast as possible. If you turn it down the light stuff does perform ok. I just believe there is something going on with your gun.

I understand Mr. Porter, thanks for your help. The gun slugs at .455 the picture is a hunters supply slug form the 405 grain pellet. Well appreciated, all coments and help. Thanks to all of you all.

Why is your gun not doing what everyone else’s gun is doing.

I have 3 bullets that I cast for the Texan. 310grn HP 340grn fp and a 405grn fp. People I’ve sold them to shoot them with sub moa groups at 100yds. With the 405grn people have reported 505-515 fpe. With the other 2 bullets they are at 450+fpe. All cast from pure lead sized to .457.

Thanks I’ll call pyrmid then and explaine it to them.

Thanks Mr. Porter, but sending it back won’t cure the problem cause every one is getting better result with Hollopoints. and the specks are the same plus or minus.. even the guy on the airforce site is using hollow points, so basically the issue in specks is the barrel, and airforce is giving specks to hunters supply( their words on their site say’s for the airforce Texan ) And the pellets are in the .457 range for which is too large for the barrel. The Texan has 5-grove right hand twist riffling. So the issue is IMHO all the Barrels are same, pellets are not to specks, Mr. Hollow point gets specks with his heavy pellets on his site posted on youtube, but I haven’t seen anyone else use the Hunters supply heavy Pellets 405 Grain accept me.. And the one n their site uses modified Pellets. To send it back could cause maybe controversial opinions that wont solve the problem. Any way It’s got a years warnty and I’ll do all I can to keep it. :winkn:

Send it back and get a new one. It’s not right.

Round Balls and 166 grain wad cuters shoot good. But I found something interesting.
The most my mic will show is around .455,, wad cutters mesure .448 round balls size when shot. So that’s the difference. The guns 457 isn’t really 457.actually it is smaller than specks. y sizer will size to .456,, setting the pellet on the mouth of the gun I can see a lot of oversizing as far as pellets is concerned. Even a .452 is too big to run up in the barrel. The most a rifling on the pellet is around 5 to 6 thousandths by eyeball site, never measured that one, but am about too.. Now IMHO what is giving the best shots on the hollow points is the ability for the bullet to be pushed through the Barrel with with less resistance due to shrinkage of the Pellet cause it is hollow, . Solid pellets don’t shrink like that they size..The box on the 166 wad cutters says .457,, but it is actually smaller than that,… Might have to sell some 45 airgun pellets and buy smaller ones maybe .455 not sure yet.. Anyway that’s the birds eye view of it.. Dad burn I love this gun it is built like a tank lol.. :winkn:

I just saw this as I was going out to the store.. My 308 corse air will drive through a 4 inch solid block and will bust it wide open, and it will mall a heavy lowe’s treated 4X4 like a hot knife through Butter. It puts out around 200 foot pounds of energy. I also use Hunters supply pellets in it 115 grain. The Texan no doubt will go beyond that even in the 500 Feet per second range range LOL I got some darn good air guns lol..
I checked the new sizing die and it is on the 456 + or – but not 457, so I’ll test it both ways next time to see what it does,, Man this gun is a well put together gun!! I think some of the form Wizards will have ball with this one.;)

I haven’t done any official numbered testing. When I got mine I bought 250 rounds of 350 gr slugs and I only know it obliterates cinder block and will kill whatever it hits. As far as I’m concerned, that’s all I need to know :biggrinn:  Definitely an anti-material airgun ❗ ❗ ❗

O-ring is fine, gun is brand new, just got it. Elevetions is 2450 ASL temperature at the time of test was 84 degreeze.
Gun is actually doing what airforce said it will Minumum to maximum using from 500 to 1000 FPS as their specks. Pellets are sized by a brand new sizer(I actually bought one befor shooting 😉 ) And I am using air gun pellets. I got a Talon Tuned Talondor and never have had one minutes trouble with it, I keep it cleaned and use proper lub for it and all my airguns. I have in the history of all my 10 Airforce rifles kept them clean and only had one tank dump. and that’s when I used a 17 cal barrel and a condor tank and set it wide open..(I don’t do that no more 😉 ) That was in my early experience with airforce guns lolol. Maybe it could do better. I’ll order some Pyrmid air pellets that they sell and test further in the near future.. As for now,, Mabe I got a Lemon, but it is an on specks as far as high and low goes according to airforce. So I must say I am satisfied even if its a lemon LMBO;;
