As a fellow senior citizen, I have brought this up more than once. The answer is generally stated as “progress”, and in this sport progress equals greater, power and killing range.
Some states permit the taking of large game, primarily deer and hogs, and I understand the Peoples Rebublik of California is floating a measure to permit licensed urban “Hippo Hunts” for the purposes of tag and release, so the Game and Fish Commission can determine their primary feeding habitats. The idea behind this is to create a “Hippo Hunger Hotline” poster to be placed in the identified heavy feeding locations, and offer state paid assistance for weight loss programs. The opposition argues the state does not have enough fork lifts, and low boy trailers, to move the sedated beasts to the side of the road, or walkway, so as not to impede the movement of traffic. They also argue for a provision that prohibits any shots being taken inside a restaurant, or within 1000 feet of a fast food drive up window, as this gives the hunter an unfair advantage, and is akin to “baiting”.
I believe this is a good program. Although the American hippo is much smaller than the African variety, running 225 to 325lbs on the hoof, they still over consume our resources, and their asses are so huge, that children and pets are at risk when the fat bitches sit down!
There are valid arguments for the humane uses of high powered air guns, when equipped with tranquilizing syringe-darts. Just recently Ted in Wisconsin demonstrated an “Arrow Attachment Barrel” on an FX pcp, so the technology is in place!
As for your Edgun, I am aware that a shipment is due to arrive soon, hopefully within the next few weeks, or at worst, at the end of December. There is hope! Keep taking your blood pressure medication, Viagra, Zocor, anti-depressants, and stool softners, and perhaps both of us will live long enough to grasp a new Edgun!
One thing is for sure, pcp cannons up to 150mm, pcp motars, pcp land mines, and pcp marital aids are just up the road from today. PCP pumpkin-chunkers are already closing in on the one mile “chunk” target distance…as seen on the Discovery Channel seasonal special: “Pumpkin Chunkin”.

Hey Hoot looks like Ed’s staying busy. I hope somewhere around there they are working on my R3 25 long 😀
Here’s a thought to ponder: How big can our air rifles get without raising the attention of our do gooder legislators or paranoid police decide these little BB guns could really hurt someone and we better find out where they all are 😈 like register them 🙁 . All it will take is some idoit shooting someone on purpose and we are screwed. 😯
So my question is where do we draw the line on power of our beloved (toy) guns? Or maybe we just keep making them larger till they are discovered and worry about that latter? Don’t take me wrong I enjoy the heck out of the thought of deer hunting with my BB gun 😎 I went to bow hunting several years ago just because rifles offered no challenge to me any more shooting deer and elk. But a BB gun,wow that could be cool. Kind of a Lewis and Clark thing 🙄
Dear Old Fart….
