Q:

9mm Vulcan?

I read somewhere that there are plans for a 9mm Vulcan to be released next year. Any one have any more information about that? Is it going to be one of those lame and low powered JSBs only gun or will we see a powerful bullet shooting pup like the Slayer?

Well RKR,my Finnish brother : Compare The energy of a .22 cal 16-18 gr pellet to the energy of a .22LR round at at, say, 75 meters and you understand that The pellet has waaaaayyyy less energy.

Yes, maybe one fourth of energy but it will still do damage. The point being, if you shoot in your backyard it needs to be safe. If it’s safe then 200 fpe is not a problem as long as your backstop and everything else is sized accordingly. If not, then don’t shoot in the backyard.

If you can shoot a 200 foot pound projectile in your “backyard” then you really don’t have a “backyard”.

It has roughly the range and velocity of normal airgun pellets. You need a proper backstop to shoot those. If your back stop can handle 200 fpe, then what’s the problem? Or are you saying that if you miss the backstop with .22 it’s no big deal, say .22 going at 45 fpe – almost half that of a rimfire round?

By the direction this thread has taken, I take it no-one knows about the 9mm Vulcan. I do hope they will make a gun that can compete with the Slayer in performance (although I greatly doubt it).

my brother keyser always has a great point!

Even if you guys don’t like bigbores many others do and there’s a considerable market for them. Besides, you can do a backyard friendly 200 fpe with airgun but not with rimmie. It is also rather nice when you are not dependent on bought ammo. Air is free if you pump and casting bullets is another interesting part of the hobby.

A 200 fpe AG is not “back yard friendly”. That kind of fpe is the sane as shooting a .22 WMR in your back yard. Do you do that ??

I shoot big center fires in my backyard :4:

Backyards vary in size.

No one on this side of “Gay” pumps without a very good reason.

Wouldn’t a .30 caliber be sufficient? What would the average shooter need a 9 mm for? If you live in the U.S. West, or in the mountains, I could see larger game, but most of us don’t shoot much larger than an occasional raccoon. A lot of those poor guys in Europe, and those parts, can’t shoot anything without risking jail time.

He has a point , being a Finn: To a point. In Finland, much like in US there´s no limits for power for airguns. Coincidentally , and as an paradox , hunting with AG´s is not allowed. As said , and once more : In my book an AG exceeding the magical .25 is all but a novelty item. A .30/35 cal ? It´s NOT more accurate than a .25. It´s loud as hell and does nothing a muffled .22 LR wouldn´t do better. I can easily, and every time, hit a Squirrels head with any of my .22 LR´s at 125-130m. Do it 25 times of 25 shots with a .30 (or evn .25 AG for that matter) and you´re one of the very few who can accomplish that. Silhouettes ? That i can understand although we have no such discipline here in Sweden since all AG´s exceeding 7 fpe are FAC only = very few owns them. That´s the fact in most EU countries.

What would an average shooter have a .30 cal for ? A .25 is more accurate, much cheaper to shoot and , IMHO the biggest AG caliber one needs. If i need more oomph i´ll take a silenced .22 LR and it beats all the AG´s at 100 meters. Do i need more ? I grab a .17 HMR . More still ? A .22-250 does it. Not enough ? Then the T3 in 6.5 Swedish does it. Not enough oomph ? Well – Papa has a .338 LM for those occasions. Get real good people …

Why does it have to be air for propellant ? Those wiley Chinese intented gun powder for a good reason : It packs soooo much more punch when that punch is needed. Airguns are fun but one has to draw the line somewhere. Mine is drawn to .25.
