Q:

A common mistake can damage your barrel / must see this

Dears,,,

one month ago i polished my Edgun barrel and after that i have noticed that my Edgun has not performing like before … i had suspicion that i might damaged the rifling of the barrel during the polishing ,,, and my gun started spiraling … however i use to clean my Edgun barrel very soon …each 500 pellets

today after watching this vid,,i exactly became to understand why it caused to me,??? i perfectly did all mistakes that this guy has mentioned in this vid…

so..i decided to order another barrel to my Edgun,,, hope this helps and make you survive from this mistake….

You might go blind polishing your barrel too much. 😯

Cleaning pellets are good for field cleaning, I’d use more than one though so it won’t break the sound barrier and scare your game away …….. 😆

But, IMO you can’t beat a good (straight) pull throughs.

Also I should have mention is that Ed recommended removing the breech for safety and be cleaning the barrel with the gun de-cocked.

Is the best bet using the cleaning pellets shot through the barrel?
I have the Napier pull through system. On the end of the pull through it has a thin bit of cord which is easy to get hold of once pushed through from the front of the barrel.

I’ve done it both ways, as long as you can make the bend in the mag well.

Also, I would use a straw !

If you bypass the forward baffles when pulling through with the cord at a 90 degree angle to the crown no matter what kind of cord you use it might/can round over a land(s) on the crown.

You don’t need to remove the LDC cover, just use a straw for a straight pull through !

Apologise for firing up an old post. Just a couple of questions.

I have watch the cleaning vid of Ed and of Ted. Both take the breech off. Using the pull through system can you not send the pull through up empty the when it comes out of the breech add your patch then pull through? This would save taking anything apart. Although taking the moderator off would help to get the pull through past the barrels.

For me it’s the patchworm….

for me cleaning the barrel is a no no, for my 22 cal pellet guns- i use pull thru patches and some wd 40, 1 pull of patch with wd 40, and 2 patch of cleaning the oil up, i do this for rust prevention and not cleaning it per se, 😀

Hi Hemn,

You can’t beat not damaging the crown to begin with.
The second is machine lathe re-cutting the crown.
The third is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Xpzv1Spsnk

I have a old rule that has worked for me for over 40 years.
Absolutely no metal through the barrel !!!
I have been using a PatchWorm system to clean my barrels it’s the BEST out there (you name it I try them all) and is caliber specific, no metals.

Here is another COMMON MISTAKE that I see a lot of members are still at this present time are doing.
Some use Weed Eater line and if you do be very careful they often contain abrasives to make cutting of the grass more effective !!!

It can round over a land(s) on the crown with just a couple of passes.
That is all it takes to causes of flyers to occur and over time group widening.

If you must use 30-50 pound test mono fishing line there made silky smooth as glass to prevent cutting from line crossing.
You can make a polishing pull through with fishing line.
Good to have 2 people one on both ends to alternate the pulling back and forth.

Have u tried turning the power down spiralling is usually caused by the pellet going to fast big power doesn’t bring better accuracy usually the opposite

If it’s just the crown of your barrel, you may be able to save it. You can polish the crown back – a ‘home’ technique has been to put a round-head brass screw (slotted head) into a drill chuck, apply some lapping compound (automotive valve-lapping compound will do) and polish while moving the drill in a circular fashion to keep everything even. This isn’t as good as a new lathe-cut crown, but it works pretty well, and if your barrel is ‘ruined’ already, it won’t hurt anything…
