Q:

A few sketches of possible HPA for Dave’s MROD FRAME…

…David equated this frame with an “erector set”…Man that aint so far from the truth. So much can be done. I think this MROD along with Dave’s frame, might be the next best thing along the lines of the crosman pistols….

I drew these before I even knew the frame and bottle measurements. Turns out I wasn’t that far off, so the drawings are pretty close to how they would look with each bottle. Keep in mind I sketched these while thinking about the eventual “massaging” (are you working on this Dave?) of the MROD valve that I’ve heard called a “Tornado” valve…so if such a valve becomes a reality, these tanks will surely have there place. EDIT: These drawings are carbine setups. The stock rifle config will have a longer tube, barrel and shroud…

The first features a jds (and I used all jds bottles for no particular reasons…) 13 cu. in. tank on a 45 degree angle. I am not sure what such a small tank would contribute to overall shot count. Please chime in.

The above 13 cu. in. bottle is a 2″ diameter and the tank measurement (not including any regs or adapters…is 7 5/16″ and weighs .70 lbs (as stated on JDS’ website)

The next picture features a 2″ diameter 22 cu. in. tank measuring 11 3/8″ and weighing 1 lb.

The last picture features the larger 53 cu. in. tank adding 2.70 lbs to the rifle, measuring 11 1/4″ with a diameter of 3 1/4″

Great ideas Dave! As far as aesthetics go, that extra air tube in the buffer tube would be awesome! Almost like the hidden gas tank in my tail light on the 56 chevy I had.

I really can see this thing taking off. I hope that the “God’s” of invention “curse” you with the proper motivation, time, and energy to launch this into the archives of American Airgunning…now get to work! 😆

The valve that I’m working on will be regulator ready, where as the stock valve isn’t really. The extra volume of that tank would really up the shot count if used with a regulator.

I was also thinking this. The buffer tube on the buttstock could accept a 1″ reservoir slid in there with the fill nipple out the back. When you collapse the stock fully, the nipple would be exposed for filling. You could remove the front fill nipple and put a gauge in there, ala edgun. That would probably be good for 10 shots anyway.

I like your ideas Joe, and the fact is, there are a bunch of ways the buddy bottle concept could be done. If you wanted a smaller forarm bottle you could make one from a section of Marauder airtube. That could add a good 20 shots and weigh around 12 ozs. Again, you could put the fill nipple in the back of the forarm tube and move the gauge to the front position. Then the regulator could go where the gauge was!

In that case… I’d say the 22ci tank would be as high as I’d go. I had a 48ci and it was quite heavy and so I’d imagine the 52 would feel like a brick.

…. this really is interesting. I dont know that I’ve heard of doing such… ..would be nice to use the tank as the buttstock like a Talon and then run a line back to the front.

I think even the 13ci would give significantly more shots…. by virtue of the reg alone for that matter…

Funny you say that…Dave (the frame maker) was saying the same thing in my post on running “hard lines” in lieu of hoses…

Also, it would be a great option for being in the field. You could make the bottle a quick connect type so you could either leave it on, or take it off to suit your needs. Yeah, the big bottle adds allot of weight. I kind of like the 22 cu. in. look. Sorta looks like an grenade launcher 😈

Rob,

I already got the MROD, and I bought one of Dave’s aluminum frames as well. I haven’t done much with it yet as I am in the middle of serious house construction 😥

I saw that regulator on the yellow. I also wondered what happened to that post. The guy was making them with a variety of outputs. Perhaps Dave will chime in, but I have heard “talk” of a “Tornado” valve for the MROD. I guess the best case scenario in lieu of the “sick” aesthetics would be pushing the largest pellet that will fit in the magazine (until someone mods those as well)–I believe it might be the 21 gr kodiaks—pushing them as fast as they can go (along the lines of our beloved condors) for the most speed, accuracy, and then of course…ridiculous shot count to boot!

p.s. I like that technique for figuring out where to set regulator output…very nice!

Did’nt the same guy make an extension to increase the air cap.? Think he was getting 100 shot’s at a constant 20FPE?-

I think I may have missed the precursor to this post.

You are thinking of getting an MROD and then attaching a HPA tank to it?

I am assuming the purpose is more shots due to more volume for air, yes? May be more cost effective to go with a regulator for the MROD. Fellow on the Yellow made a post with some very nice numbers, but the post was removed.

Thats an interesting concept though…. the MROD fills to 3000 psi, but I would consider tuning for 2000psi… then run a string… find out where the back end of your curve is… right before your shots start to fall off… and I’d get my reg set to that psi….
