A project for a .224 Condor
ok you crazy lathe turning guys…..:) (yes I am jealous )
I’m looking to buy a .224 barrel and have it turned down by someone here to fit my Condor.
So here’s a few questions I have.
1. What outside diameter would be the smallest it could have?
2. Can it be Stainless Steel? (Can or would anyone here turn SS )
3. What would be the max length you would do?
4. Who could do this?

Thanks Riverside. I have been thinking of doing this for quite a while. I just started reading up on it a couple of days ago.
I haven’t read anything about a sizing die. Just another thing to look into. 😯
I really never understood the head on the air gun community when it comes to .22 bore diameters
1st off most folks intend on running straight leadslugs in these things so running the slugs thrugh a sizer is a step you should be taking anyways if you desire decent accuracy
its true for firearms and even more so for air guns
slug the damn bore then order a sizing die certainly NO larger than the groove to groove depth as the lead will be displacing as it goes through the bore anyways
none of this stuff is one size fits all
there seems to be this notion this crap can be done off the shelf

Hi Tj, I am going to do the same thing with my long version Edgun. Check out Green Mountain and LW. They both offer a .224 barrel.
I ordered a .25 cal. airgun blank, from LW, last month. The barrel is .630 dia and 24″ long. It cost $101. I paid to have the crown cut ($35) and to have it finish ground down to .600″dia ($35). With shipping, it was $181.
On the airgun blanks, they will finish grind the OD down to any size you want, for $35. I don’t know if they would also grind down the breech end for the Condor. It would only cost you a call to find out.
I have been reading everything that I can find on this. You don’t want a .22RF barrel. They are .218-.220 bore and you don’t have the power to push RF or CF bullets down them.

probably a tighter bore than .224
.22RF bores usually are but there is a great deal of variation between different barrel makers in bore & groove diameter depending on the maker

I’ll check in to them, Now to find some one to do the machining on it. Or I’ll have to explain to the wife why I have to buy a lathe and milling Machine…… And I know that won’t go over very well

Anchutz blank, these do have a slight choke to them
not certain of bore and groove diameter but conventional .22LR match blank…better than anything LW probably produces…

Sadly, I’m the other side of the pond so won’t offer my service. But here is some pointers.
The barrel could be anywhere below 1.04″ and above 0.309″
If your looking to have a shroud or something, then a thinner barrel is better because there is more volume, but if your using an LDC or no shroud then get it as thick as you want as long as you can handle the weight 🙂
Stainless steel shouldn’t be a problem
Max length I could find was 27″

sizing dies for firearms slugs wont work very well with pellets
that said this would be the apropriate course if you were going to using cast/swaged solid core projectiles
