A question of safety
In my backyard I shoot either into a pellet trap or up into pines at a 45-80 degree angle. I would never shoot a .22 powder bullet in my backyard, but I wouldn’t worry about a BB. Is the risk of a falling pellet substantially less that a .22 bullet? Is a .177 pellet safer than a .22 pellet for spent rounds?

Follow the four rules of firearm safety with pellet guns and you’ll be fine.
If you are shooting up at an angle then you risk a miss and hitting someone or something on the other side. So be cognizant of what is on the other side of the angle you’re shooting.
Pellets are less dangerous than normal projectiles however any injury as a result of you shooting can result in a civil claim.
