A slighty traumatic experience.
Today I took delivery of my new barrel from Leupy. Beautiful work, but somehow he assumed I was going to put the indents into the barrel (the ones that take the bush grubs). I have no drill-press, and could see no way of perfectly lining up all the holes other than by eye-balling the new gear next to the old barrel & bushes. Time for the Gonzo again.
Somehow I nailed it. One of the drilled indents was out sideways by a fraction of a mill, and even after working it a bit the second frame-grub still went in real tight. But she’s all together and firing. I’m not happy with the tightness of the grub, so at some point I’m going to work the indents a bit more (imperfection niggles me I’m afraid).
Anyway, thanks to Leupy for the beautiful new barrel and associated parts. 😀 And some new grey hairs. 😥 😆 Next will be to see how straight it shoots. I’ll report back on that after the shooting trip (now delayed until next weekend).

This is easily done.
Mount the rear bush with one dimple and one setscrew, slide forward bush into place and start one setscew through tube and bush.
use the frame and bushing holes to guide a bit to make the dimple(s)
No need to measure, no possible way to do it wrong
Give it a go there Gonzo, you will never look back.

I can’t be arsed to explain how it all went, suffice it to say that it was a minor nightmare. Each bush has two holes. I had to tap one in each myself (for the frame-grubs). Then indent the barrel twice to take the bush/barrel grubs. Getting all of these lined up was the nightmare, and your method was in no way possible. Trust me, I considered every possibility.
I had to eyeball everything, tighten grubs to mark the barrel and then drill free-hand. I was out on one indent by a fraction of a mill, which put one frame-grub out of line enough to make it very tight.
Until I drilled the indents the bushes could not be inserted into the frame on the barrel with their grubs in place, they were 1mm proud. I suppose I could have gone and got shorter grubs from somewhere, and probably should have, it would have made the entire operation a bit easier.
That lot’s probably about as clear as mud. To summarise…I could have sourced shorter bush-grubs, then I wouldn’t have needed to indent the barrel. But then the whole shebang would have been held in the frame by nothing but friction.
That’s it, me battery’s gone flat. 😆
