Q:

AA s410 magazine not cycling

Hi Guys, I have been reading this forum for sometime now. Because of this, I had to get a TT Conder .25 with all the “features”. I love it! Then I had to get a AA s410 Xtra FAC .22 thumbhold. Perfect. I then thought, maybe something shorter? So I picked up a AA s410 sl carbine .22 and added a classic airtube…very nice. I know we all have problems!
Now the oem magazine only cycles sometimes, and the RC magazine never. I have been told that sometimes, mixing the two mags back and forth, can cause problems with the index post spring or the mag clip retainer spring. Everything looks fine when I cycle it without the mag in it, but when the mag is inserted, it will not cycle the mag?? It seems like the indexing spring isn’t catching in the mag slots. The indexing post spring looks fine. I have heard that the spring can be easily broken if you “play” with it. It seems that a simple “tweek” should fix it, without having to replace the parts, which all look fine??? Both mags cycle flawlessly in my Xtra FAC.
Thanks, Ted

Saugus..thanks for the thread. I think i’ll find my solution in there!
I’ll let you know. zzzzz

Don’t bring out the hammer just yet. I found the thread I started about the exact same thing, might be some reply’s here you may want to check out, but so far, the sanding thing is the only thing that helped for me. Hope something here helps, good luck.

Yes I switched mags to the other gun and they worked fine. In the new carbine they worked fine to start, then started to just half index(as Steve experienced), then no indexing at all….sometimes if I wiggle the mag.
All three mags work in the other gun, so I believe it’s the gun’s mechanism. I think I’ll get the hammer out in the morning. 😉

I can only go by what happened to my gun, and what helped… have you switched mags between the guns to see any difference? I only have one gun to go by. I bought my gun from PAG Steve, and what he found odd was that my mag would either index fully to the next shot, or not at all. His only experience with faulty mags were ones that only partially indexed, like right in between two chambers.

I’ll give that a try in the morning, but as I have said, the mags work perfectly in the other rifle? It’s as if the rifle mechanism is off a wee hair, and refusing to engage the mag! Maybe I’ll tweek to indexing spring a bit?

Yeah i meant the mag itself, take it out and flat sand front and back face, not alot, just enough to take any burrs or whatever that may be causing any friction between the mag and inside of housing. The thread I read also suggested maybe spraying a bit a silicone spray on it before putting it back in, but I didn’t do that. Anyways, after I sanded it the mag on both sides became nice and smooth, and it did help. Watch out for that little spring and indexing ‘ball when taking mag it out, easy to lose if spring pops out.

Saugus, when you say clip, do you mean the mag?…or the indexing post spring(the metal springy clip which is supposed to rotate the mag)or the mag clip retainer spring( the piece in front of the mag and on top of the breech, held down with the two small bolts?
All my mags work in the Xtra, but the new carbine just started having these problems! If I shift the mag a little, when it’s mounted, it will sometimes index a few times? It just seems like a small adjustment is all it needs. Thanks

Yeah I got the extra and have had the same issues with the OEM mag. I read a tip on the Yellow about this very same thing, which says to take the clip out, and flat sand the front and back face in a figure 8 like motion against a sheet of fine sandpaper against a flat surface, (obviously). I did this, and although it still refuses to index from time to time, it’s way less of a problem now. Don’t have that RC mag yet, but I’ll be getting it, and soon.
