AA S4XX/5XX Air Cylinder Removel…
Has anyone successfully removed one of these, short of using a hacksaw?
I’d appreciate any advice. This thing is on tighter than the shroud was.

I am a man of means and at $15 I’d be tempted to go for the gusto and enlist the blonde also. A blonde and a red head is a combination I haven’t tried yet. 😉 As long as she is fatter than my wife, my wife won’t mind. But if I even talk to a thin woman I get the eveil eye. 😆

Hugo dumped 16″ of rain on us in 24 hours a few years ago. This is where living on a mountain comes in handy.
Our lake is down THREE FEET. A record from the
100+ heat, and drought we had all Summer. This could be a good thing.

The fill probe has been replaced with a QD fill. So, there is nothing in there but bad luck, ill will and possible a snake.
Kroil? Don’t show your ignorance! That’s those little things whales eat in the Artic? They are salt water critters and the cylinder would rust!

Hoot, can you get the fill adapter out of the other end? Maybe you got something in the tank hanging up.
Possibly something Air Arms did to a few guns, you never know. Wouldn’t be the first time a manufacturer “updated” the design with no warning.
If it was mine, I’d spray some kroil in there til it creeps out the other end and I bet that fucker would come off. Removing the kroil might be a bitch if the tank is still stuck though.
Uhh, you did try tightening first? Ive seen thread galling on an airforce tank, the valve would not budge until I turned it in first. As far as I know, I was the first to remove the valve.
I cant think of anything else to try, Ive never had mine that far apart either though.
Steve….the one on the right is “Pearl”. She’s 18 years old, and claims to like older men. I thought of fixing her up with WOK, but he didn’t have the $15.00 necessary for a “date” with her.

This isn’t what you want to hear, I’m sure…but the air cylinder on my S410 unscrewed with a mere bare handed twist. Actually, all of the air cylinders on my .25 Marauders, BSA Sportsmans, P-rod, etc. have come off easily.

I’ve tried everything. The air cylinder was empty, heat, cold, shock, vibration, torque, brute force, and charm…nothing worked.
The various means of heat applied should have taken care of any adhesive. As a last resort, I heated it with a MIG welder until it was white hot and I could actually count the threads on the inside. However, when I tried to twist it, the metal began to curl, so I twisted it back and dunked it into ice water.
My neighbor has a draft horse. We rolled a 50′ wet leather strap around the cylinder and locked the breech down with two 4 X 4 trucks and a 5000 lb wench. He beat that draft horse like a rented mule, but the cylinder wouldn’t give. In fact, one of the 4 X 4’s axles snapped! and we had to stop.
Finally, in despair, I ran an ad in the local paper for 10 fat girls to work for an afternoon. I tied the breech to an oak tree, next to a cliff, and rigged a harness to the biggest of the herd, with the other end rolled around the air cylinder, and pushed the ugly bitch off a cliff. Rope snapped. I got a thicker rope and tied four (4) fat girls to it, used an end loader to pick them up and drop them off that same cliff. The 24″ diameter Oak tree uprooted and went over the edge with my breech! By now the other fat girls had run off and there I was with five fat girls and an Oak tree at the bottom of a 100′ cliff, and my breech/air cylinder was at the bottom of that mess.
I’ll never do that again!!!
I guess you could say I’ve tried about everything and finally gave up!

Once the cylinder is absolutely free of air pressure (besides atmospheric), something which might help is using a latex glove to get a good grip on the metal and send repeated shock waves towards the threads by tapping on the air tube using a softer metal, e.g. copper, or even a hardwood.
Since your hand would dampen the shock/vibration, the tapping would need to be closer to the threads, and your hand farther away.
Instead of heating it, you might try icing or chilling the tube to shrink the metal. Repeated warming and chilling often will loosen jammed threads. Creating a small vacuum within the tube, by chilling may help.
You think rust or corrosion may be involved? Liquid wrench? 😕
Some have reported taking them off by hand only.

I thought of drilling the tube and using an iron bar and buying a new air cylinder to replace it. But then I thought of filling the holes with JB Weld! Much cheaper.
However, it’s smarter to just keep it on. That way when I need it the most, it will simply fall off!
That’s the way things happen around here.
Thanks for the advice. I keep hoping someone will send me a free Air Ranger in .25 caliber. It has an ambi stock and I’m left handed.
Receiving a free Ranger is as likely as me getting that air cylinder off.
