about the Short: lower fpe and regulator performance?
Hello All,
I’ve found myself in a shooting situation where 15 fpe seems more appropriate for my environment:
1- urban setting with houses fairly close, so sound moderation is important.
2- small-ish pests (squirrels, pest-species birds)
3- 30 yards target distance.
Until this morning I’d had my Short (original offering, and with Petr’s Czech barrel) set at about 15.5 fpe. I had not chronied it for over a year, until this morning. I’ve never touched the regulator. I saw a deviation of 5~7 fps on between shots. When I increased the fpe to right at 19 fpe, the deviation dropped to 3~4 fps. Frankly I wished I’d never checked it because the gun was still stacking pellets at 30 yards. But seeing that higher deviation has me wondering about the relationship between the hammer spring and the regulator (as set from the factory…?)
edit: can I use a lighter hammer spring?

Hi Kris,
I’d seen that video before, but I thought the topic was about actually turning the barrel port to choke the air supply to the pellet. Does the (older) Short and the newer Veteran have the same part (transfer port) as shown in Rowe’s video? I’ll look at the video on Mutant disassembly too.
Thank you,
Darryl
