Accuracy suggestions please at PW 4/0 and 6/0
This is my 2nd outdoor shoot and I’m wondering what improvements I can make. Here is the setup.
.25 caliber Condor, with 95 gram Tony Hammer.
PowerWheel set at 4/0 and 6/0.
Bench rested. 30 yards.
Start at 3000 PSI for each shot group.
Target ring size is 1 1/2 inches.
26.0 JSB Kings, 35.8 EunJuns and 43.2 EunJuns.
This image shows that ata PW of 4/0 the groups shrunk, which is no doubt partly due to slower velocity. BUT I also noticed less recoil / jerk.
Is recoil / jerk a factor in the first 4.5 milliseconds ?
For some odd reason the 26.0 gr and 43.2 gr tightened right up and the 35.8 gr went super wide.
Any ideas on that ?

Well I have to do a valve mod and then see what the max Powerwheel setting I can send the 43.2 and 6-Ring under 1000 fps and see if the recoil is tolerable in regard to accuracy. I’ll let you know.
I figure I need 60 FPE at 50 yards and a 2 inch kill zone for a clean coyote kill.
I hold it real tight and steady. Recoil is not that bad, I get more recoil with a 22lr.
Recoil is from resistance. The heavier the pellet the more recoil. My .25 has heavy spring and 100gr hammer. I shoot JSB’s at 970 fps with reg and 6 rings at 975 fps and the difference is huge.
Whern you say “full power” are you at 3000 psi and 13/0 PW when you are getting the hole with 43 gr at 25 yds ?
How much recoil do you get ?
Are you holding tight or just pulling the trigger ?
Barrel is clean and it is stock AirForce, 4 months old.
I think you gave me some key information. Having a tuned valve allows reducing the Powerwheel, which reduces hammer momentum, which allows for reduced recoil.
Time to get the valve mod, if I’m sticking with the heavy hammer.
Thanks
AG,
Just the other day I was trying to figure out the same thing you are with pellet accuracy. Was using my TT AAA to see what pellets would work and at what psi and pw setting. I started with a 2800 fill and PW on 6 shooting 31g Barracudas. Top Hat is a little less then .090 (2 dimes almost fit in the gap) First shots over crony were around 1050fps groups were a little opened up at 50 yards. Kept shooting a little then I noticed fps was picking up after every shot so I pulled the tank. PSI was at 2500 put tank on and dropped PW to 3 which slowed to 950fps. Groups were better and let the tank get to 1800 psi before the fps started dropping. Filled back to 2500 and tried PW on 4 which gave me right around 1000fps. This is when my groups got down to a nickel at 50 yards. Left it at that and I have had good success with that setting. Figured I would let you know because I have the 95gram hammer and a TT valve.
Kings look to group excellent with you set up.
35 EJ’s doing well too 🙂
My bottle was tuned by Tony and it made a huge difference from the stock performance I was getting. Have you spoken with Tony yet? I have the same setup but my bottle was tuned. I’m getting around 114fpe tp 119fpe with 62’s and on PW 8 was hitting 987fps with 43’s. At PW 13 it’s more around 1050 for 105 fpe. The 62’s are more stable for longer flight and retain better energy at longer targets. Try out to 80 yards and see the difference on a 2×4. As for accuracy not sure what’s going on, is your barrel clean, pellets clean? Where did you get your barrel?
I’m running a 95 gram hammer with stock valve uisng a 24 inch barrel Condor starting fill at 3000 psi.
What did you mean by “tuned” ?
How about you ?
I can shoot the 43’s in a hole at 25 yards. I have it on full power as I do with all my heavier pellets. I like busting through the boards I have as backstops. 😎 With 62’s I get 1 inch groups at 60 yards, where did you have your gun tuned? and for what kind of shooting? Pellet,pw,velocity, etc.
Starting velocity approximately….
26.0 gr = 1060 fps
35.2 gr = 998 fps
43.2 gr = 968 fps
How fast are they going?
I hadn’t heard of that – thanks
i would stick with it on pw 4 , the 43 gins, and kings grouped pretty dam good, plus less jump with lower pw setting, and lighter trigger pull, and if you wanna make the trigger pull even less for cheap , if you have TD bank, or if there is one around you, go in and snatch a bunch of there pens. they have perfect springs in the top part of the pen which you can replace the factory trigger springs with, just might have to cut a few coils.I did it to my gun ,it now has alot better trigger

With a power mod you will have no problem acheiving that with the 62’s.
