Q:

Adjusting Matador.25 reg to 120bar?

So I finally am ready to try out the reg tester I bought from dman awhile back but wanted some info first. Ok so I have an EdGun Matador Short.25cal and the reg came from the factory set to 130bar but I feel like the gun could be a little more efficient with the air. I find that shooting 890-900fps seems to work very well for my gun and would like to keep those velocities, so do you think I could drop the reg to 120bar and possibly increase the HST a little, that I’d be able to achieve the desired velocity mentioned? Has anyone here done this yet?

I set My Matador. 25 120 bar and shoot 890. 1/2″ group 50yds, no challenge and move to 100 range, here is 100 yds group. about 5-8 miles wind from 8 clock. The one on the bottom is for sign in. I only have it about 500 pellets through. I believe it’s getting better after 2000 shots. I tried 200 yds, I can still see the hits in my scope. For hunting rabbit in 100 yds, that should be no problem.

How’s your Matador .25 now? Reg is 120 bar? let us know your updates.

You don’t want to tune a Matador like that. Don’t get too fixed in on numbers. In some cases, the speed will increase with less regulator pressure because of valve dwell time. This type of setting will come at the cost of a wider extreme spread.

To find the best setting you’ll need to hunt for it. What you want to find is the top speed of your gun at a particular regulator setting on the upper part of the first FPS bell curve. The HST will have two peaks. That means that as you turn the HST up the speed will increase until it hits the peak of the bell curve. Continue to raise the HST tension the speed will again increase. The second peak is inefficient. The speed will depend on barrel length and plenum size.

A good start is to set a pressure at 120 and find the top speed at that setting. Back the HST about 10 FPS from the maximum speed at 120 bar (first peak) and then shoot the gun on a string, you should be able to shoot the Matador 10 bar below the regulator setting and maintain about 8 FPS ES. The reason for all this trouble is really for an increase shot count

If you have the HST set to your desired velocity I don’t think you really need to change it. Just lower the reg pressure the correct amount (could take some trial and error) and you should be good. Because the hammer already strikes the way you want, it’s just not the most efficient with the reg pressure higher than needed. Or at least that’s how I see it. It’s what I did with the Leshiy, when I found a good HST, I just slightly lowered the reg a couple times until I found the sweetspot that gave me a 4,6 fps ES over the whole shot string
