Q:

Adjusting the new .25 R3M HST Screw….a bit different

:hoot:

When my .25 Standard arrived, I downloaded Ed’s Youtube on how to adjust the HST. In it he references a small set screw in the block that the HST screw fits into. He makes a point to be certain to unscrew this tiny set screw before adjusting the HST, and to tighten it carefully when finished.

Mine has the tiny threaded hole the set screw fits into, but there was no set screw in there. Instead, there was a black knurled lock nut that screwed over the HST adjustment screw, and was tightened against the block that holds the hammer spring. Works just fine, but with my 72 year old eyes, I kept looking for that tiny set screw and couldn’t find it. I tried every metric hex wrench and finally a flat bladed screwdriver, until I realized what I was seeing down that tiny black hole were the threads of the HST adjustment screw.

There you have it. The adjustment screw is simple, but you have to know how to release it before you can adjust it. Just because mine has a lock nut instead of a set screw, don’t take my word that all R3M’s are now made this way. That has never been mentioned by Ed that I’m aware of. I may have an older version of the HST lock, or perhaps a newer type of locking the HST in place…that I don’t know, nor do I care. Both methods work just fine.

Also, I believe Ed mentioned to uncock the hammer prior to adjusting the HST. I didn’t do that at first and that cocked hammer spring doesn’t adjust easily with all that tension on it. Once I remembered his advice, I uncocked the gun and adjustment was simple.

I ended up with 31.1gr Barracuda’s coming out at 880 fps before the speed started to drop. So I backed the HST up a tiny bit and restored the 880 fps for an fpe of 54. I can live with that.

I’ve got John Hagan’s adapter on the gun, and Donny has sent his LDC by mail, so sometime this week I can try it for sound and get a shot string or two to review. Right now, that gun is very loud pushing those 31.1gr Barracuda’s at 880 fps. What made it worse is there is a lake in back of my hose and that seems to amplify the sound several times with echos. So I’ve got to lay low till that LDC arrives. I hope it works!!!! Donny put together an 8″ model and I believe I may need every inch of it, perhaps more. Strangely, it seemed the gun was quieter with the OEM shroud end on it. Probably just my imagination. Although I did put four 3mm holes on each side of the front shroud, a hole between each baffle washer, in the Colibri manner. I didn’t think it made much difference. I have have been wrong.

I now have to admit “Street-Wide” only looks stupid! I’m putting an O-ring on mine tonight. That’s one of those ideas you know will work, and wonder why you didn’t think of it yourself.

PS: Is Vildo back in jail? He hasn’t posted anything for awhile. I hope he didn’t put his sweet wife back on the streets again, to raise money for another air gun! Honestly, the woman is a saint to put up with him… Last time he got fined 500 Kroner, and spent four weekends in jail for pimping. His wife is so cute, the judge gave her 250 of the Kroner, and sent her on home.

I heard he watched the Arkansas vs Kentucky game yesterday and was hospitalized for spontaneous laughter.

SW,
thanks for that great tip, I’m trying it today. I even found O rings that fit in the set sent from EDgun. Thanks again, great idea

Hoot, you are correct there is no locking screw. May I make a suggestion about the HST locking nut. It becomes lose after extended shooting and then your velocity changes because the HST moves. I didn’t feel comfy using loctite as I may want to adjust it later. The simple solution is clear nail polish on the threads for the locking collar. This will make the collar stay put and the HST will then stay where you put it.

I put an O ring between the frame and the lock nut and hand tightened the lock nut. The rubber O ring keeps tension on the nut and it has stayed tight for 2000+ rounds. Adjustments are easy and there is nothing to scrape off or clean up..

Give it a try.

My dears,,,it was just a question and i didn’t want to buy,,,because my Matador HST is working perfect,,,i never touch it again since last year when i have adjusted my Regulator and HST ,,,and the FPS is still 930 never changed,,, THIS IS WHAT WE CAN CALL IT EDGUN MATADOR

I’ve had pretty good luck putting a wrap of Teflon tape on all sorts of screws and such on these air guns and getting that to hold nicely, yet if needed the screw can be loosened and re-tightened.

Hoot, don’t use anything given to you from Ville, it may not be made of just nail polish…

Or….you can remove the HST adjustment screw, go to the hardware store and purchase a proper sized metric nut that fits the threads of the HST, for about .50 cents….come on brain surgeons…a lock nut is a lock nut is a lock nut!!!

It’s your money. Granted the black knurled one looks very nice. Does it look like the extra $49.50, plus s/h costs, nice??? Just a thought.

PS: Dear Geyser Sores…the only nail polish I have is the “Lady GaGa theater Pink Glitter Glamour Nails” that Vildo sent me for Xmas from his personal collection…will that work?

I’m not a distributor in Kuwait for the tag and Edward I
Over to the people what it needs
The price of $ 50

Brother SQ,

where did you get those? do you sell them? how much/one?

So those extra holes did help, good to know that. The HS setup that you got is the one that is coming in the latest guns. ED did mention that once you are done setting the HST you need to cock the hammer before tightening the locking screw, otherwise it will get loose after some shots.
