Aeon Scope Review

I have the 8×32-50 aeon that I purchased from wwag with my cricket. I had a hawk I was going to use but the reticle intrigued me so I got it to try. The spacing of the hash marks was one moa equal to 2 hash marks at 24 x and 1 moa equal one hash mark at 12x. I played around with chair gun and different zero distances and came up with this solution that has worked great for me. My gun is a .25 shooting jsb’s at 960 fps sighted in at 60 yards. With the scope set on 16x each hash mark works out to a five yard increment. Not exact but close enough that I’ve shot pigeons out to 120 yards using it. For wind with a 10 mph cross wind the hash marks work out to be 1 for every 10 yards of distance. ie: at 50 yards with a 10 mph wind I hold off 5. At 70 yards I hold off 7. As windage is linear it is easy to adjust and calculate once you know the wind speed. ie: for a 5 mph wind hold is 1/2 as much. The glass is not perfect but the side focus works well and the image is clear and bright. Very good for the money I think. The reticle is not perfect but the best I’ve seen and works for about 90% of what I want with my ag without spending a lot of $. I’m extremely happy the the aeon and would recommend it to anyone as an Ag scope. The reticle is great and while you could use the turrets and dial every shot in its a bit cumbersome to do that. Though the turrets seem to be repeatable from the little testing I’ve done. Thanks.

I agree. Every one of those mid-priced Asian scopes I’ve tried over the years uses a doubler, tripler, or quadrupler fixed internal lens to bring the power on adjustable scopes.

Except with the lower powered 10X, 12X, and 16X models, the top power has always lost definition, gotten hazy, and seemed to lose focus at the outer edges of the lens image.

These factors seem to be a constant in scopes using a fixed 3X or 4X internal magnifier lens.

My best results has been to simply buy a fixed power scope when I want to go above 16X. The lens are specifically ground to that high magnification, not artificially multiplied with another internal lens. The less glass between your eye and the objective bell, the sharper and brighter the image.
