AF frame porting

The Talon Tune 6” shroud reduced the report of the muzzle blast by about 30 % on the Talon SS 22 Cal and about 40% on the Condor SS 25 Cal. I heard about frame porting on the Tag forum to reduce the report on AF guns. So I gathered the info needed to do mines after waiting awhile before doing it to a brand new gun that is.

I ported my frame on my Talon 22 cal and Condor 25 cal SS 2013 with sound lock using Hoot: recommended info. The principle behind this is that if you let some of the air pressure out before it hits the front baffles in the shroud it will reduce some of the muzzle blast. I used a 1/16” bit and drilled 5 holes on Condor ¾” forwards the back baffle screw hole and 4 on the Talon 22 cal . Using a decibel meter between the muzzle and the holes in the frame with the grip I placed with a piece of carpet in the slot to dampen the outflow of air. The Condor 25 cal seemed okay using kings 920 fps with 5 holes, but the talon with 16 gr JSB at 700 fps seemed better with 3 holes. I plug the hole with a sharpen Q-tip with it protruding about a ½” into the grip and carpet. Thinking of tapping this hole out and installing a hex screw so I can adjust the output. Both frame porting reduced the report by about 40 % and the reduction is more noticeable between the target and the muzzle, than the muzzle and the shooter.

With the frame porting on both the Talon Tune 6” shroud on the Condor SS 25 cal, it is just as quiet now as my Talon SS 22 cal with no added shroud. Both guns are very quiet, hearing only the hammer hitting the value and the impact (smack) of the pellet down range is the loudest sound they make !
