Q:

Air Arms 410 ERB and new 410 Side Lever comparison

Cygnusx “finally” returned my Scuba and Talon SS….. he also brought his AA 410 ERB so we could compare it to my new 410E SL.

There are the obvious advertised differences – Side Lever and 20mm as opposed to 16mm shroud, but there are a few sublte differences that I wouldnt have noticed if I didnt have a freind with the old one.

The Shroud is about 1″ shorter on the SL. The guage is different and has color coding to make it a bit easier to read.

There are no longer any bolts holding the receiver to the lower part of the gun and the receiver is a bit higher – to accomodate the larger shroud.

SL is on the Bottom

And the other side

We took video of both guns shooting on several different power settings – we used the graduated markings on the receiver as a guide. Cygnusx is going to post that, as he used his camera and he has High Speed internet.

What I thought is that the new SL is a bit quieter on all power levels and the older ERB has a bit of twang to it on low power. Not sure if the camera will capture the sublte difference in muzzle noise, or the additional action noise on the ERB.

I like my side lever a lot more after using the bolt on his. A lot easier and smoother even though my gun has hardly been shot and his has quite a lot of pellets through it.

Both guns are awesome…. just that mines better (and not ONLY because its MINE) 😛

this is by far the best comparison i have seen on the sl verses the bolt. thank you for the information 😀

kodiaks are nice and that is what i based the above fpe.they a very accurate and super hard hitting. however i find that they are a little loopy in the trajectory. i now prefer a lightr wieght pellet like a 15.8gr. in a 5.52 mm. does anyone else find that to be true? and if so , what brand of pellets do you guys use in your s410 extra? sl or bolt.

p.s. i nailed a squrril at 84.5 yards-head shot. i used my 440 pro range finder and a trajectory chart i taped to it. had to click up 37. rifle set at 28.8 fpe. at what fpe do you find your accuracy best on your rifles?

these rifles are reallygreat-look forward to a btas regulator.

hey every body i am new and this is myfirst post. i have an erb22 bolt. just some info regarding the differences. steve at pomona air does some extensive testing on the bolts and side levers and found that the older s410 e models have about 35fpe as appossed to about 31 on the side levers. mine puts out 37.19 fpe using kodiaks. i have a shooting chrony and is garrunteed 99.5% accuracy. i have mine tuned to 28.82 fpe using jsb 15.8 in a 5.52mm and am looking to add a regulator. does anyone have any sugjetions on what kind. i live in the states. ðŸ˜Ŋ

I think all of the rifles are a little different. My ERB does 36 fpe. I have a friend who has the same type of rifle and his only did 29 fpe.
Using Kodiaks.

Hi photo22,

That multi-shot magazine sticking out so far probably won’t allow you to use one of those ranging scopes with big side wheels. Do you find that being a handicap? Do you use the single shot adaptor when you compete?

I bought one but have not used it. My club is cool with the multi-shot, but if I shot at other clubs I will need that single tray. The nice thing about the multi tray it’s easy to keep track of your shots between fills. I have seen some s410’s with high scope mounts and custom or small wheels to help things clear the trays

Yeah that’s true. They are still quiet guns. One guy at my FT club siad, it sounded like is was shooting at 12fpe until it FT target. I have mine set at 17fpe.

blocking the holes only helps with ldc mounted, otherwise it decreases the effectiveness of the shroud

I tried blocking the holes on mine and it seemed to be the same with more coming out of the barrel now. So the new ones are 1″ shorter…mmm…. ðŸ˜Ŋ

they are both rated the same….and yes they do sound the same…except at 12 fpe and down the new one is a tad more quiet

barrel lenght is the same in both of them…but the new thicker shroud is 1″ shorter….

i guess if the shroud had been same lenght on both of them the new one would be more quiet….but the thin shroud makes up for the missing volume by being that 1″ longer i guess.

both would benefit from a piece of tape over the shroud vent and an additional LDC…but honestly….unless you doing something shady….you dont need the extra quietness…

they can both be shot indoors in confined spaces without risking your hearing

WOW…Guys maybe I’m wrong but they sound the same? 🙁 The new one has got too be quieter ❓
Are both guns rated at the same FPS/FPE?

but i only payed 680 for mine…(including 10% discount from pyra) 😈

That reminds me…… You scratched my tank !

sitting in the yard….about 20y away recording this….i had a VERY hard time telling them appart

YN rifle seemed a bit more treble’ish ….at times… and at low power it was a bit better than the 16mm shroud

seen from neighbourghood perspective….the noise cant really bother anyone at any powerlevel….and the difference in loudness and tone…was neglible

but i only payed 680 for mine…(including 10% discount from pyra) 😈

Here’s the video Cygnusx took

Starts off on high power alternating guns and going down in power. The last 4 shots where you see my POS as of yet unfinished landscaping is first the old for 2 shots and then new for 2 shots.

Hell, he got it around March of this year.

Photo, I like the new guage just because its easier to check at a glance. I could see me making a mistake on the other guage. It would be nice if it had more graduations.

Both are great guns… the new features come with a price tag as WOK kindly pointed out… I’m just happy to get something slightly different so it makes the hit to my pocket feel a bit better.

I like the way you have it setup Ninja 😀 . I also like the old ERB Gauge. It seems like it’s better for accuracy. That’s somthing that in needed for FT shooting but maybe for hunting it will be fine.

This my rig for FT in.177
