Air rifle or…
AR15 M&P .22 w/sparrow suppressor to hunt? I’m just curious to hear the good & bad. I’m not walking away from air rifles but it would be nice to pull out the pb once in a while.

Sorry to hear about you being in Michigan. They have pretty strict silencer laws for both firearms and air rifles. AF won’t even sell the TSS to michigan
Heck if the AR platform is what you want to shoot, I am with Rob, I would be all over it man… Then if you wish and/or need the stealth also, and you can’t do the suppressor there is another way to help with the noise…
Just buy the AR in a 9mm version and shoot sub sonic ammo, that will help cut down on the really loud part LOL…

So far everything I’ve read is a no go for hunting.
what state are you in (if you don’t mind sharing)? I’m in the Seattle, Wash. area and in the somewhat rural suburbs we’ve had an up-surge of wildlife roaming through backyards, up to and including mature bears. I’ve got plenty of firepower to bring down anything that comes my way but “discretion is the better part of valor”. I’ve been considering a suppressed carbine too now that they are somewhat available. The range we go to has plenty to choose from and I get giddy when we walk past them. Giddy, I say.
Not really sure, good call. I’m researching now. Wish I can roll out of bed in boxers and unload a clip on the porch. I haven’t really dug into the whole fps, fpe, etc… But I will just as soon as I receive my forms back from ATF.
Just found this on DNR site.
• Use cartridges containing tracer or explosive bullets. A silencer or similar apparatus on a firearm is illegal.
But the suppressor law was just passed a few months ago so maybe DNR is late updating their site. I’m gonna contact them and see what they have to say.
Depending on where you are, a suppressor may be illegal to use hunting.
Aside from that…. no need to justify. If you want the AR and can afford it, go for it!
Personally, I live in an area where I can…and have… stood out on my porch in my drawers firing off my SKS. No neighbors to speak of and can shoot powder burners all I want, but I’ve not hunted with one in years. I just prefer to use the airguns.

If you live in a free state, it’s hard to beat a can. .22lr suppressed. Subsonic is going to give around 90 fpe and with centerfire, the sky’s the limit. My dream rifle/can combination is the .50 Hushpuppy. 647 grain projectiles at 1000 fps are pushing 1437 fpe. Pretty awesome.
But even if you can’t hunt with the can, run subsonic loads out of a long barreled .22s, 20″ or longer. They’re pretty quiet. I had a 28″ barreled CZ 452 Ultralux that was very quiet and accurate with subsonics.
