air volume question!!

so i know that the AF tank is 490cc’s… and it is filled to 3,000psi or thereabouts. and if i’m converting properly (just a google converter), 68 cu in equals a little more than 1114cc’s. that would be over twice the volume of an AF tank. but the tank im going to have an input of 4500psi, not 3,000. the reg is going to be set for 2800psi output. i really don’t know how air in relation to volume works…how many more shots, on average, would i be getting with a 4500psi tank vs. 3000psi tank if the “size” is the same, at 68 cu in? im confused. 😕

not yet, but ive been talking to JDS airman, and Marmot Militia and they both agree that the reg on the tank (68/4500) should have an output of 2800psi if im going to set the rifle up for strictly 70 grainers. 😈 there wont be a reg on the gun, just from the bulk tank that’s tethered to the rifle. it’s a bit cumbersome i guess (i never thought so- played paintball like this for alotta years), but it looks better and feels better than having a 45 cu in 4500psi tank ON the gun. any further thoughts on this Hoot?? im trying to get all my ducks in a row before the final build.

First you need to determine how much air, in psi, you use per shot, with a regulator set at 2899 psi.

The number of regulated shots from a 68 ci tank, or a 490 cc tank, when either is compressed to 2800 psi, is “zero”, because 2800 psi is when your reg goes off line.

For a rough estimate using the regulator, and a standard AF tank on the gun, determine how many psi you use, per shot, with a 2800 psi setting on your reg, and a 3000 psi fill. Watch your air gauge closely, and count each shot, until the gauge gets to 2800 psi.

Let’s say it’s 70 psi per shot. You would get 3 regulated shots from that tank with a reg at 2800 psi and a fill of 3000 psi.

Knowing that you will use approximately 70 psi per shot, divide 1700 psi (the extra amount of air pressure you’ll get in that same tank at 4500 psi) Now you are getting around 24 regulated shots from that tank. If your tank was about twice the size of your 490 cc tank, you’d get about 48 regulated shots, because the compression is 1700 psi greater than 2800 psi, and the tank volume is doubled. (1700 / 70 = 24 X 2X Volume = 48 shots)

This is all hypothetical of course. You need to determine first how much air, psi per shot, that regulator will use when it’s set at 2800 psi. That has to be your starting point.

By the way, what are you shooting that needs nearly a 200 BAR setting on your regulator? Most regulators are set at around 125 to 160 for most normal shooting, for consistency and desired power.

You have a kick ass Condor you plan on shooting coyotes at 200 meters with?
