Q:

Airforce frame to bipod adapter.

Hey Guys,

I’ve made a few of these adapters for guys here and thought I’d test the waters.

Basically what I’ve done is made an adapter that slides onto the bottom rail of the AF frame and incorporates a 1.5″ diameter “forearm” for a typical rifle stock to rest against. The bottom has a ‘sling swivel stud’ that you use to attach the bipod. It is secured with two set-screws from the bottom and locks the “dovetail” into place.

I really haven’t gotten into making it really pretty; it’s functional, though. I need some ideas for making it look better.

Is this something of value that I can add to my portfolio?

I can get it painted, but anodizing will be cost prohibitive.

Would $35 be too much?

Regards,
Jim

you can anodize cheaply yourself. Check out http://www.getphpbb.com and look in metal working how to

i would drill/mill holes/slots/flutes and sand/bead blast, round the corners, paint with a bake on epoxy/gun kote paint…

it looks like a good idea.

if you think about it in that way 🙂
can you please ad an extra line in your product range.
the i just do the job budget range, WITHOUT, shiny, flutes, bleuing(would prefer stainless,or paint it camo myself) unpolished ect.

Nice work, as always, but I say abandon and channel all your time and energy into the MEGAMOD!!!! 😈

I’ve gotta agree with you.

I’ve never been one for flashy addons that cost more money..hell, I had to be dragged kicking and screaming into fluting the E-TaC LOL.

I’m thinking I go with this basic design, with a small amount of reshaping, add a flute or two and leave it at that.

Then I’m onto the MegaMod!!

verry simpel, low cost, does his work, products, without all the shiny and much work costing extra’s are verry nice to 😀

This is quickly evolving into the idea I had for the MegaMod.

A large hand guard with piccy rails, room for the hand, and a bipod stud.

Right now I’m making it from 1 x 1.5 bar, but almost think round bar would be easier in the rotary table to do the faceting and angles.

I made another example tonight that did not curl up around the sides of the rifle. I could not tell any difference in the flex and it’s a whole lot easier to deal with. (read: make) Angled the sides, fluted them but didn’t get to the bottom. Kind of a p.i.a. from rectangle stock, though.

I’m going to do another MegaMod as it seems there is more interest in a full forearm with accy rails, and a bipod stud than just the bipod mount. It is very VERY effective at quieting it down too.

Keep the ideas coming, I’m all ears.

Jim

ps: and a bayonet stud too.

Make it longer to replace the original forearm grip, make a thread somewhere on that adapter to allow shooters install a QUICK RELEASE tripod adapter, and if possible add a long quad Weaver/Picatinny Rail to it so shooters can mount whatever they like on the gun, like flash light, camera, laser, etc…. 😆 😆 😆

Humm- and a Bayonet lug. Muhahaha!!! 😈

Forend from 2 X 3″ lengths with the mounting stud offset to the rounded front would allow just enough length for my hand.

Are you starting with a round bar?

It would be nice to have a flat bottom and slightly angled sides for when not using the bipod.

I just have the AF bipod and not satisfied with it. I mounted it from the top of the frame so the rifle hangs below it allowing a little easier leveling. Is leveling any easier with a good bipod mounted under the frame?

Anyway, I like your adapter as it will better distribute side force if using the strap for steadying aim.

Perhaps I could add a bayonet stud to finish the tactical look. 😯

I knew these guns were missing something…. 😈

Looks good I’d just round the edges off and charge $35 for it…

On the anodize I talked with our purchasing guy here at work and he said that without a “company discount” $7 per part if its a small quantity and less per part as the volume increases since as you know setup time is where the money is….after that its just run….hope this helps… Greg

Great ideas, Guys.

However, longer will be much more difficult. The amount of runout/chatter in a longer length-of-cut endmill to do the profiling will be problematic.

The inside is cut with an annular cutter and I believe the max I could go is 3″. These in the picture are 2″ long.

Perhaps I could add a bayonet stud to finish the tactical look. 😯

Keep em coming.

Jim

PS. I hope to have more E-TaCREG numbers tomorrow.

What would it look like longer as a replacement for the AF forend?

Rounded ends sounds good. And/Or maybe tapered to blend into the trigger gard.
