Airforce handpump (identical FX handpump model) disassembly
Does anyone here know how to disassemble the Airforce handpump? I have the one that looks like the FX version. I believe an o-ring within the unit needs to be replaced. My buddy and I had a hard time trying to get the shaft removed from the base. We only got as far as removing the top part off, the round brass cap below the handle. I’d appreciate any detailed procedure for disassembling the unit.

You could try using a pipe wrench on the air tube to gain more leverage. Sometimes that helps a lot.

The pump was bought new. I tell you, my buddy and I couldn’t get to unscrew it; I held the air tube and he did his part with the wrench on the brass nut, and we still had no success. Damn, it is friggin’ tight as heck! Hmm, I’m wondering why yours wasn’t as tight like mine. I’m thinking the threads have some Loctite or something like it to keep it that way. Anyway, upon removing the screw will I then be able to remove the air tube to gain access to the other internal shafts and o-rings for inspection? Thanks!
Adjustable wrench on the brass nut and just held the air tube in my hand, Wasn’t that tight. Your’s might be a bit different if its giving you grief… Or if you bought it used, maybe it was taken apart and that bit was mis threaded by previous owner.
YN, how in the world were you ever able to unsrew part #16? We had a very hard time trying to get it removed, and we had no success. We figured that it wasn’t removable. What tool did you use?
I nearly forgot. Be careful when removing that last metal rod from the base housing in that last picture. There’s a ton of little glass like beads that are for condensation to form on that will go flying around if your not careful. Stand it up and then undo the bottom and they will stay put in the base.
If you see a part that you need that looks in good shape on mine let me know, I think I still have most of it, except the base that was given away to someone who cracked theirs.

Here’s an Old FX pump I bought broken a while ago and the pictures I took during dissasembly. Plus a Schematic someone emailed me. I started adding numbers to my pictures to match up with the schematic, some might be wrong. I never was able to fix it and just got a Hill Pump instead.
