Airgun Sniping Video
Had a little bit of fun on my last outing. I decided to bring the Dragon Slayer 454 out of hibernation and have some fun plinking with her. I wanted to see how she stacked up against my small bore tack drivers at “DISTANCE”. 75 yrds to be exact. And i have to say, she did very well and is ready to be moved out to 100 yards plus. The targets in the video are at 75 yrds and they vary from “unopened” cans of Cola and plastic bottle fill with water. The DS454 ran out of steam at about the 5th shot which was the last water bottle. But after topping her off, she was back on again.

As always…. nice work. Love the vids; keep ’em coming. Any ideas on maybe something to demonstrate how much energy is carried out at long distances? Maybe shooting a 2×4 or something similar?
I’ve shot cantaloupe at shorter distances with my DAQ and the results are nice.
My impression is that no matter what the angle, up or down, you are supposed to measure the distance horizontally, and aim accordingly.
I may not get what you’re saying, but…
Using Chairgun ( I like the visualization feature), set it up to your rifles specs and input a shooting angle of 0 degrees (default). Leaving all figures the same, change the shooting angle to, say +/- 30 degrees or more, and see how the point of aim has changed. You will be aiming lower than if the shot were a perfect 0 degree horizontal shot… the difference is minor at lesser angles but when I find myself shooting almost straight up, I do have to aim lower.

Shiiit Steve, the AA guns are nothing to laugh at…at all. I shoot my buddy old school AA410 carbine at 835 fps and that lil sucker DON’t MISS. To be honest with you, the Rapids and Daystates are WAAAAY OVERPRICED. Most all airguns have LW barrels on them which cost a little over 110 dollars. The valving and such on most airguns are basic by design. Nothing very complex at all. An airbottle or airtube is all aluminum or steel tubing and most all stocks are either beech or walnut. Hell, so why does an airgun cost from 600-2000 dollars? But that is a whole nother argument…lol.
Tune any of em properly and they will all drive tacks. Hell, take a look at the Crosman Discoveries and Mauraders…LOL.
Oh yeah, when shooting at any angle, up or down, the practice is to aim a little LOW. I don’t know the science, but that’s what works. Chairgun will allow you to input angles.

Tofaz…I recently bought my walnut stocked AA S410 ERB…I know, a cheap high end airgun…I am thinking to tell my wife that I had a drunken orgy at a motel with two hookers and that’s where the money went. I think I’ll get less flak from that then telling her that I bought “another gun” 😆 Iwas also thinking of telling her that I spent the money on the kids back-to-school-supplies 😀
Thanks Tofaz, Cyg, Rob, AKULA, Mr Llama, WOK, and the others who have encouraged me to explore the range and accuracy possible with these guns. (OBTW I popped a rat last night at my usual range of 24′ with my ERB set to 34 ft/lbs…it stopped the lil’ bugger good enough 🙄

Wait till my next video….my distances are getting longer and longer little by little just to show what an airgun can do. As a lot of the OLD SCHOOL Talon Airgun Forum guys know, i’ve been shooting my airguns at over 100 yrds for years now and it all started with my CONDOR when it was a .22. It used to push .22 cal 28 gr EJ’s at about 1080 FPS and i would blast 1 gallon milk juggs filled with water at 100-120 yrds and the EJ’s would easily punch through the water filled jug. Thats when i knew, these things dang near have the power of a .22 lr. Its just that the pellets dont have great BC’s. With a proper tune and a ton of trigger time, airguns can be very accurate and deadly at long ranges. They are very underestimated.

He He, yeah, the .25 does lay the smack down for sure. And so does the Dragon Slayer. But just to think, my DS is pushing like 250 FPE at the muzzle and DAQ’s and others are pushing double that. PHEW!! Can’t wait to get my new Jack Haley.45 at 400 FPE. That gun should make the DS look like a .22 airgun…lol!

Don’t know the exact angle but, it is uphill. Its definitely not 45 degrees up but it is probably more like 15 degrees or somewere in that neighborhood. And yes, the principle for shooting UP/DOWN hill is the same for ANY projectile no matter how propelled. It just has to do with gravity pushing down on the projectile while shooting up or down hill. But at that slight angle, its not affected very much. Shooting at the angle in the video takes about the same hold as when i shoot on flat ground. HE HE HE of course in California….THERE IS NO FLAT GROUND…LOL. 80, i would look up the EXACT science of shooting at angles online. There is good info out there. Hell, i need to look it up too..LOL.

Thats exactly what i want to show in the video, and airguns effectiveness at distance. How they can be ACCURATE and POWERFUL at range. Even with the bad BC’s of pellets, at distance, they still have serious punch and can be very deadly. And yes dude, these dang toys are hella expensive, especially with all the mods i have into them….LOL. No go out there and buy some expensive airguns so i’m not the only one in trouble at home. LOL…wife still don’t know how much that RAPID cost me…lol!

It’s tough to explain without visual aids.
When aiming up/down, think of how far away the target would be if the angle was removed, and it was moved up/down directly in front of you. Aim at the distance it would be at if it was level to you.
If the object is 50 yards in front of you, and then moved up 75 yards in the air, you still aim as if it were at 50 yards.
