Airhogs vs. Pure energy?

I see some tanks on ebay from pure energy that look just like the airhogs, but are about $140 dollars cheaper..are they the same tank? Or is there some difference i’m not seeing? thanks!

Again, there’s also an issue past ‘is the pressure right?’. The other issue is ‘can it deliver a large volume of air on demand without the pressure dropping?’

The AH regulator seems to do that. I suggest somebody should get brave and test other brands to that standard. That is see if it will perform like the AH unit does.

Again, I wouldn’t assume that’s what AH is using, but my Wevo tank at 850 runs mine like it was CO2. I won’ t guarantee it’s up to passing many times more gas without pressure drop. That is let you get maximum benefit out of the air the regulator delivers.

I’d check into that if I decided not to use the AH regulator.

a yr ago I bought high end paintball gear and the pure energy tanks were just fine to tell you the truth there aren’t many manufactures of the tanks out there! just badged with different names.

I settled with the crossfire 68ci 45k tank to fit My angel.

If you do go with a PB tank and regulator, make sure it is a HPA reg VS a Low pressure regulator (450psi) this is usually stated and FEW are sold as LPRs (not many markers use low pressure)

You could get the Air Hog reg. and a tank from JDS, it would be a 3000psi tank.

OK..realize that I’m the dumbass here about all this stuff…in dumbass terms…pure energy or airhog??? I already have the co2 adapter 😉

I need to know more, cause I’m not understanding all this technical wismo gizmo, sure air hog is expensive, but they have the reg. that will operate at the high pressures needed, I’m going to put one on my 850 air mag next month, cause they are consistant at high pressure and they are the best regulator to be found right now.

They’re a little smaller and the output pressure is much less. The latter is not just a matter of ‘turning the pressure up’, not only are such mods questionable from a safety standpoint but the regulators are probably not set up to provide the large volume of precision regulated air without ‘sagging’ like the AH units (supposedly) are.

We slap a (relatively) big bore vlave open demanding High Pressure air. The regulator has to respond by opening up it’s control valve just as wide and just as fast…..not at all likely with paintball regulators seems to me.

I bet they work, but don’t have as high a performance at the Talon level and even worse at the Condor level.

Edit: And another point, the AH unit includes a firing valve the PMI doesn’t. Even if we assume it’s a stock CO2 adapter from AF, it still has value that has to come out of that $140. IIRC they cost $95 at PA when not included. Makes this a $45 savings for a smaller tank of questionalbe performance.

Yup, the part you’re missing is that 68 cubic inches is storing gas at 3000 psi, 200 Bar. There’s really 7.8 cubic feet there as the AH tanks are rated (uncompressed state).

68 * 200 /12 /12/12.

Confusing for sure.

Edit: Oops, it’s 4500 psi, 300 bar. There’s really closer to 12 cubic feet in there. Think about it another way, 88 cubic feet (the large AH tanks) would be a cube 4.4 feet on a side.

See how confusing this all is?
