Q:

ALOT of YOU (yaa, you guys)

😕 All these fps lists showing the resultd (and the pounds per shooting), of several shots; What is the power setting (dial) at on the gun (Air Force Rifle)? I’m reading these and if they’re @ #1 dial, or #10 dial, that’s a BIG difference! What are the majority if nat all of these reports base lined at? 😕

Hey all of YOU that repied; Thank you. I just learned (I’m pretty sure of it) alot from what you put this direction. I realy got into shrpshotr28’s reply with the various range of corrosponding information. Thanks All.
NOW, I just need a chrony; After (or during?) all the other stuff I NEED, with my TSS. 🙂

your are probably getting the same power from a low # as you are from a high one on the dial, the extra noise is just wasted air.

Hi, Adam is right about each gun being different. I’m sure that my guns are not set up as well as they could be as I’m still working on them.
This link will take you to some results I posted awhile back.

Hope this helps.

Each gun will vary in that setting. You need a chronograph to determine what setting is the most efficient.

On my Talon SS with 12″ barrel velocity topped of on setting 3-11.

When I modified my valve and changed to a 16″ barrel the optimum setting on the PW was 7.

Each gun will tell you what is best you just have to listen to what it says over the chrono.

I most alwayz used my 12″ barrel @ 8-10 power on the dial. I alwayz have my gun tank @ 3000 psi or no less than 2800 psi. What’s the thing with people not filling to the 3000 psi gun tank? When I see 2000 psi I’m thinkN like, What?
Just tonight I put my 12″ barrel back in and have my gun on #2 pwr. and it’s never been so awesome qwiet! But how good is #2 power? Not much to me! The volume is yes! But I’m not into the cool looking expensive, yet as powerfull as a childs toy..

there is a point of diminishing returns. example, each # on the power indicator may give another 25fps starting from pw1 until pw6 after that each advance may only give 5 fps additional but use a lot more air. It is a balancing that each gun requires experimenting with to find it’s “sweet spot”. at that point you get the most velocity possible for the minimum amount of air. at pw 7+ w/ a 12″ bbl a lot of your air does nothing but make more noise.

If you were to shoot at your high setting over a chrony and then continue to reduce the pw setting until noise made a noticable drop (probably about 6) You would probably find you’ve only lost 50-75 fps.

On tank fills: often these guns perform BETTER (higher velocity, better consistency shot to shot, and better accuracy) when filled somewhat below max. pressure. EG. my .25 cal w/ condor tank gets 950-1000 fps w/ 31gr kodiacs on a 2400 fill and gives 20+ consistent shots. If I fill to 2800, my first 10 shots or so are below 900 fps, climbing in velocity until the tank pressure drops to about 2400. BONUS: lower fill pressure = easier pumping, or more “full/desired” fills per tank of air.
