Q:

alternative hammer

so, most of you may know by now that im having a pellet crisis(the bane of .25 owners everywhere).

i want to temporarily reinstall my .177 barrel just so i can shoot a bit, but it doesnt fit the interior of my lcs barrel ride hammer.

i was considering using a steel or bronze 1″ spacer from HD or similar.

will this damage my frame if i properly lubricate it?

or does anyone else have a bright idea(no, profiling my .177 bbl. isnt an option)

thanx, chas.

so as long as i properly finish the surface, it should be safe as a temp hammer?

my primary rides the barrel anyways, so i guess frame galling would be a negligible issue anyways…

btw, im about 3 days from homeless, so i cant buy any .25 rounds right now, but i got a surplus of .177 cphp.

guess now all i gotta do is make a bumper to cushion the blow of a steel hammer on an aluminum breech…

Or you can buy your 25 caliber pellets from another supplier than Pyramydair.

I put up a thread on the Yellow asking if anyone knew when PA would get Kings in, I was answered that Straight shooters had Kings.

I ordered three tins to hold me over until PA gets my order for 13 tins filled.

Now frieght was a factor, but your on the east coast Bill so it should work for you.

Later yesterday Tim at Mac1 sent me an email that he had Kings, this would have been cheaper due to me being in Oregon, but I missed it.

So Kings are availabe else where.

And Ihave tried that bushing that Riff referes to, very cheap and it works, I sent one to someone on the forum here, but I don’t remember who.

so how about properly lubricated steel?

You could get one of these from ACE. 1″ OD bronze bushing, oil-impregnated.
If you heat one up, lots of black oil comes out.
Been using one for over a year, no deformation or frame galling that I can see.

I turned mine just a little, so only both ends ride inside the frame but probably not necessary.
Also put the slightest 45° chamfer on both ends, just enough to make sure the sear likes the surface cuz they dont seem to like square cornered hammers.
