Am I crazy?
Today I decided to dive in to messing with the top hat- well I only have one regular talon tank and i know its the new style valve- but I decided to experiment with my co2 adaptor condor orifice- just for shits and giggles loosened the two set screws on the th and turned the hat down to about .050″ – i know cause i used another .050″ hex key underneith the hat to set that clearance -snugged down the set screws then i filled by hand pump a totally empty 9.0ounce co2 tank with air to 60 bar about 800 psi-turned on the chrono on at 18 feet from the start screen- shot 30 very consistent shots -using 8.3gr superdomes- velocity ranged from 368 down to 329 over 30 shots with only 60 bar in the tank 85% of the shots were in the 360 range. right after the 30 shots connected the tank back to the pump 6 strokes in found the pressure to be just over 50 bar- remarkable– now I am starting to see how the top hat adjustment comes into play. limiting the lift off the valve seat – trims the potential waste of air and keeps it in the tank- wouldnt dare fill this co2 tank above 1000 psi – but man just about 400 fps on 800 psi fill- I see how adjusting it can help consistency – noth that it a huge problem with my standard tank – but the more shots the better. 😈

After that first 30 shot string — I filled the bottle to 1000 psi -pw 0- shot 50 shots with 7.0 gr rws meisterwhatervers — first shot 426fps 50th shot 418 – the string low was 398 (that was shot #38t) the hi was 426 on the second shot- 85% of all of them were faster than 419 many duplicates at 422fps— connected the tank back to the pump still had 55 bar in the tank this is gonna get real sweet- I am gonna now fill the tank to 1400 psi and see if I can get 70 shots in the 450 to 550 range — also noticed how velocity goes down with the power wheel turned up – left it at zero- pellet weight seems to determine alot (how the valve acts) with my freshly cleaned .177 12″er- (by the way I clean my barrels with Toyota factory rust penetrant no brushes – totally releases any lead in the barrel 1 dry patch and thats it- when stored soaked with rust penetrant and wrapped in rust penetrant soaked news paper and stuffed back in its tube- when recommisioning a barrel I run a clean patch thru clean the rust penetrant off from the rear bushing to the breech coat from bushing back to breech with divers seal saver pure silicon) sorry for that. But anyway – I am doing this cause my cousin and i shoot indoors alot – 28 foot indoor range and things get pretty serious when it comes to shooting. I swear I just shot 24 shots straight into the same hole…. all I gotta do is get him to want to bet 😆 – he shoots a tss 177 and swears by beeman bearcubs a shallow domed diabolo pellet at 8.09gr at 600fps-for accuracy I dont know what he likes about them— but either way – I am gonna continue on my quset for the perfect 70 shoots – ill have my slow setup for meisterwhatevers 7.0gr and then my fast outdoor setup for thirty feet with rws supermags 9.6gr wadcutter wicked accurate at 600-650— I am gonna win alot of money… 😆 btw sharp- yeah the tank is rated to 1800- but i dont know about the burst disc on the co2 tank not the adaptor-the tank disc is stamped 3K— I will try 1400psi next with 9.6 gr supermags- hope they are in the high 500 to low 600 range.. also ultra quiet…..
that’s really cool. be perfect for basement/garage in the wintertime.
Check the neck area of your co2 tank, it will be marked with the rated pressure (usually 1800psi) just as our hpa tanks are marked 3000psi. you can fill air to the rated pressure since it doesn’t change pressure drastically like co2 does. maybe 1600psi could get it in the 500fps range and similar shot count. Just a thought. Might have to try it myself.

seems like 450-500 is it for the 7gr wadcutters rws – super mags didnt hit 550-they were right around 415-425- shot 60 shots with a 1200 psi fill- 500 down to 450 – most shots at around 460- great at 28 feet…indoor quiet shooting. Ive got the itch for a 24″ barrel think im gonna get a .20cal.. 8)
