Q:

Am I maxed out

I have a .22 SS with a 12 ” barrel , a hiflow valve ,and a airforce weight and fill to 2200 psi, trying to get the max out . With 14.3 cps I just got my highest fps so far tonight at 998 fps , and with Bigboy senior 28.6 I’m at 40 flb. I just received one of Tonys one piece top hats and with that installed I saw no gain in fps but did notice a huge difference with increased sound output. So I’m back to the stock tophat. So am I at the max or is there a little more to be had. Down the road I will be getting an 18″ barrel but for now this is were Im at
Thanks Phil

I have to ask why your trying to max out the FPS?

Not as much fps but trying for 45-50 flb, which I am getting close. I have a heavy hammer on order so I’m going to try higher fill pressures , right now I cant fill over 2400 or I get valve lock. Then down the road I’m going to get a 18″ barrel which should get me to were I want to be. Plus I cant leave any thing alone I like to tinker. 🙄
Thank you for the replies

You could increase your fill pressure which would mean that the air expelled would have more energy, however I’m pretty sure that you are maxing out that 12″ barrel

if you’re getting more sound than velocity gain I would say you are proly maxed for the 12″. I would think 998 fps with a 12″ is pretty dang good. To get more you might be able to use a shorter breech and move the barrel back a bit to shorten the gap between the tophat and barrel ie. dead space that must pressurize before the pellet is propelled forward but i would think that the results would be negligible. The only other choice would be an aftermarket valve that can dump the air faster than the airforce one.
