Q:

Another Black Gun!

And it ain’t air-powered.

Just traded my S&W 686 for a Glock 23 (.40 cal). The Glock came with two 13 rd mags, two 10 rd mags, the box w/ all the original stuff inside and a couple hundred rounds of .40.

9.9/10 condition, not a rub or scuff on it, told that there was a few hundred rounds through it, and it looks like it. The guy who owned it told me he doesn’t like semi’s, he likes wheel-guns. 😯 That’s cool by me, he was top-notch righteous.

This is a nice gun, totally balanced and LIGHT, even with 13 rds in it.

Truth told, I’ve never handled a Glock before today, but I can see that this thing is one big handful of ass-kick just by holding it.

I’m really resisting the airgunning-style urge to light off a few rounds into some phone books in the garage. 😆

Sunday Shootin’ is on the menu.. hopefully the local range will be open.

Hoo-Ya! :18

Glocks are just too…. umm… plasticy lol ( if there is such word)

Sig p229 in 40 as main gun and p232 as a back up for me.

Wouldn’t want it any other way !

Having extra rounds is never a bad thing.
Leo buddies of mine learned that one the hard way in the Luby’s shootings in Killeen Tx. 🙁

I was considering a Glock subcompact in .40. Because of the lack of safety features I changed my mind to the subcompact XD40. I still haven’t made the purchase because I’m in between the XD40 and a subcompact 1911.. 😆

The “safety” issue is something that concerned me as well, but after examining the mechanism, I can see that the only thing that you really need to be careful about would be holstering the gun. If you’re not paying attention and a shirt tail or the holster’s safety strap got into the trigger guard, you might get to see how well your insurance card works. 😯

Otherwise, the rule is simple: Keep your booger hook off the bang switch until you’re ready to shoot! 😆

umpfff-
ya traded a 44 mag [correct me if I am wrong] wheel gun for a .40 cal. glock?
I guess I am thinking more like the guy ya made the deal with.
A couple buddies of mine have .45 glocks and they are awesome.
I still wouldn’t give up the smith even for one in .45.
I at one time had a smith semi-auto .40 and it sucked ass.
Something about that round that I don’t like.
I know s/w isn’t known for semi-autos, and Glocks are bad ass, give us a chime in on the performance of your new hammer.
I’m curious.

Nope, it was a .357 Mag/38 spl.

I owned it for about 12 years, and while it’s a beautiful gun, I never really warmed up to it. Really only accurate in Single Action mode, and even then I never impressed myself with my shooting. When I’d shoot it using Double Action, rounds went everywhere. It was a helluva nice noisemaker, but I couldn’t make it work for me.

I did a pretty big ‘net search on the G23, and I saw little to no bad reviews of it. Almost universally praised as one of the best Glock models for performance and accuracy.

Plus, a neat feature of the 23 is you can simply swap out the barrel and mag and it’ll shoot .40, 9mm or .357SIG. So it’s like three guns for the price of one!

I’m also aware of the 9mm vs. 40 vs. 45 debate, and while I guess I’d prefer a 45, the 40 will do me fine. If the first round doesn’t work, there’s 12 more in the clip right behind it ready to go. 😆

I know what you mean! Missing the light recoil of the 9mm and the take em out now of the .45.

With penetration between the two. 😕

I have always liked the 10mm in full boogie form. But then again, back in the duty days, I carried a 41 mag most of the time. And a .45 off duty.

There has been the argument over the three -9mm vs. .45 for years. The 40 brought it back to a point.

With the advent of batter premium bullets available today, the gap is smaller.
So what can I say. Not much. A well designed hollow point may(probably will) expand properly and be effective with a well placed shot. WooHoo!

So a modern 9mm, or the newer .40 may do fine and expand as intended, but I’ll tell you this. A ……45 WILL NEVER SHRINK!!!!!! 😀 😉

The glock rules. And the .40 is an AWESOME round. I have the Glock 20 in 10mm.

Enjoy your Plastic-Fantastic! 😀

Just be careful. I don’t’ care what they say. That gun has no real safety. It is no more safe than carrying a 1911 fully cocked with the safety off. Except may be the 1911 also has a grip safety.

So be very careful when re holstering. I have seen several go off by catching a bit of shirt tail etc. when re holstering. In fact, that is how the shooting got started at the branch dividian compound in Waco a few years back. 80 + men, women, and children shot down and burned to death because a duthless ATF agent tried to holster his Glock while climbing a latter and shot himself in the leg. All hell then broke out. It was when the shooting started on the roof. They just left that part out for the American Public!
There is a reason the FBI labeled them the Toe Popper! 😯

All that said, I’ve owned a bunch of them. Darned light recoil in any cal. I have ever shot them in. Un-real for such a light pistol.

You will learn through practice that with their trigger, they like almost a shot gun type trigger pull rather than a typical target trigger squeeze.

And DO not shoot cast bullets in it. The bbl. can built dangerious pressures with cast sluggs.

Mike

you will enjoy the Glock, I have carried one for 10 years now, no complaints.
