Another method of removing the barrel shroud on the S410…

So after reading a few post on this subject I made the attempt but I gave up on trying to use a rubber strap wrench and risking damaging the threads on the shroud or the upper receiver. How the heck do you get the proper grip on the thin diameter shroud with a rubber strap wrench puzzles me unless it’s been done before but from brand new?????? 😕

Sorry, no pictures but here’s what I did and used:

– rubber strap wrench, if you use a adjustable wrench then you’ll need a towel for protecting the metal.
– bench vice
– two peices of thin wood strips
– electrical tape or similar
– rifle cleaning rod or something similar… forget the coat hanger
– wd-40 or similar
– silicone grease
– cleaning rags
– Blue threadlocker or similar

Step:
1 – No need to drain the air tank but remove the upper receiver/barrel/shroud asesmebly from the lower air cylinder/ trigger assembly held by 6 screws. To do this you need to remove the stock first.

2 – wrap some tape around the shround close to the breech end, this is just to protect the finish on the shroud.

3 – Now clamp down the shroud into the bench vice close to the threaded connection to the receiver and use the two strips of wood to avoid damage from the metal bench vice. clamp down tight but not crushing tight.

4 – Now get your rubber strap wrench and wrap it around the receiver close to the threaded end and begin turning counter-clockwise. You’ll hear a snap and that’s just the thread glue break its bond and begin unscrewing the receiver from the shroud.

5 – what’s left in the shroud should be the 5 baffles and the barrel support tube.

6 – spray wd-40 down the tube, have a drip cloth ready as the wd-40 will drip out black with dirt and lead particals.

7 – insert the rifle cleaning rod down the muzzle end and tap out the barrel support tube first.

8 – begin tapping out the baffles one at a time, trying to tap all 5 at once may damage the baffle you are tapping on.

9 – clean out the shroud and internal parts and replace the 2 o-ring’s on the support tube. I bought my replacement ones from Rona, I beleive they where 3/8″, 0.67 cents each.

10 – smear abit of silicone grease around the baffles and o-rings and replace back into the shroud in reverse order using the cleaning rod throught the breech end of the shroud.

11 – dab a tiny bit of blue threadlocker onto the threads to hold into place.
