any one turn a muzle loader into an air rifle??
it ws just a thought that occured to me today at work and am now thinking that it might be do-able, but not too shure yet. ❓

Functionally, it works the same as you describe. A “blowgun” isn’t really (massive understatement) suitable for use at 3000psi, so I use a hammer valve (configured as a dump valve) to vent the back side of the spool (piston).
This allows a pretty conventional sear and trigger arrangement, which improves the consistency of “piloting” and (I hope) power/accuracy.
Not in the same league as the AF stuff around here accuracy wise, I’m hoping for “minute of meat” to ~100 yards. If in the end, if “they” don’t let me use it for hunting….blowing large holes in “stuff” is still a lot of fun. 🙂
Computer modeling with ggdt puts the 550 grain slug on 3000psi N2 @ 918fps and just over 1000fpe. We’ll see how accurate that is when I get back to work on this thing. 😎

I can only imagine the damage it would do with 3k behind it…you were saying that your using a spring to open the valve??? how does that work? the ones ive made just used the sudden drop in air pressure behind the piston to slide it back and fire the round, usually i just used and air nozel connected behind the piston to start the chain in motion. I just never thought of adapting it to an actual air rifle (or cannon 😈 ) keep us posted

by coaxial valve you mean that the air tank surround the barrel with a pistion that slides foward to seal against the breach face (since the barrel has lower pressure that the air chamber arround it) then when the trigger is pulled the piston slides back and dumps the air in the chamber into the barrel..?? if so ive done this with spud guns and it is DEVISTATING just had to make it work for a kid with limited tool access 😈

I’m just thinking that I know of I go to .25 then I’m still gonna want more and why not stop till you hit the big .50 where ammo choices become wider and more available…hence the question …on a side note I would love a quackenbush but don’t really have the money just some free time

ok it all makes sense now..thank you ….and damn that sounds like it should knock the shit outta what ever you hit. and as far as MOA goes if it will do 4″ CTC at 100 yrds consider it a killer.. 😈
