Anyone had a "Visual" inspection of their A.F. tan
I know I have to be getting close to one year and I’m going to be taking the valve off soon and thought that would be the time to do it. Is it the same “Visual” as on a scuba tank? T.I.A.

When you get a hydro on scba tanks they do a visual test. I have seen them fail the visual and need worked on or get a hole drilled in them because they didnt pass the visual test.
Visual Inspections (VIP) are a diving industry requirement. More like a dive shop money making scheme.
There is no requirement for them in other tanks. There is no legal requirement for them in dive tanks.
The reason they are prudent in dive cylinders is that they are life support equipment. I do find it kind of funny that the fire service (I am a FF by trade) does not do any visual of our tanks, only the DOT required hydro tests.

I thought I heard that AirForce says to send your tank to them every 5 years for replacement or hydro not sure.

May be I’m wrong, but I have read repeatedly on other forums that visual is not required on such small tanks. Been hearing the same about hydro.
Many PCP’s out there have tube type reservoir’s. I’ve never heard of one of those being hydro-ed?

I’m pretty sure these tanks are made by Catalina and are supposed to be hydroed and vis. tested. The F.D. replace their tanks way before the end of their service life don’t they? Look at the info on the top of your A.F. tank and compare those stamps to what you’ll find on a catalina tank.
