Anyone have the JDS Tank and or Regulator on their Talon
In another post I mentioned having an older Talon SS made back in 99′ and was considering getting the tank hydro tested. In considering the costs I thought it might better to get a new tank. I was thinking of getting a new Spin-Loc tank and retrofitting my frame for its use. It would be very nice to have a pressure gage and on tank fill fitting. I then discovered JDS Airman site with tanks and regulators to work with Airforce rifles. The prices were very good and you would be getting a regulated rifle too! I wanted to know if anyone has there regulators or tank for their Airforce/Talon rifle and what tank size and regulator psi setting used. The other question was what you used for a butt stock. I use Jdsairmans reg, I have a Condor w/24″ in .22…, mine is regulated at 1600psi, that puts a 18gr JSB out of the 24″ barrel at 830fps w/ Tony QCTH w/large insert. Your Talon has a shorter barrel so the velocity will be lesser. What is your barrel length? I would guess it’s a 18 or 12″? I would start with a 1800psi regulator, then you can change and tune your velocity with Tony’s inserts. TT sells other sizes of inserts for tuning purposes. Also JDS has regs that will handle 4500 psi fills, so you can probably over fill the Airforce tank a little for more shots but that’s your choice. john at JDS is awesome to deal with and ships super fast. Hey Bill, it sounds like you are at the same place I am with my Talon SS. Would like to go to a bigger tank without going over 15.5″ in LOP.
Right now my older Talon SS, mine is from 2003, has a TT tank adapter. WokGuard15 MK II also installed with a nice walnut grip.
Hi Gb, thanks for providing some more input to my questions. Like I said I’m getting back into airguns and trying to get updated on new airguns and products. I’m glad the internet has all the converters for cu. inches to cc to ml otherwise making comparisons would be difficult. I have been looking at the Altaros reg which I like for not adding too much more to the length but I would be using my old tank. I really do like the ability to adjust and change the bar input of the Altaros. The idea of using the JDS tank and reg would as I understand would allow me to use my tank bonnet and valve with out an Airforce adapter. The use of his 48 cu in tank or 62 cu in tank would really increase the air capacity. I weighed my existing AF Talon tank and got a weight of 3.6 pounds. I assume his weights given are for his tank alone. 48 cu in tank 2.5 lbs and 62 cu in tank 3.25 lbs. As these are shorter tanks my estimations are an short increase in LOP for the 62 cu in tank and maybe a shorter lOP for the 48 cu in.. My main concern would be getting a good fix when shouldering the rifle. Also in my estimations there would be a raising of the cheek weld of around 1/2″. I would be very interest in any one using these short fatter tanks on their rifles and how they shoulder or home butt plates they have made. I will of course be contacting JDS Airman soon to get his input.
GB I would be interest in the specs. on your selected pellet your shooting with velocity, SD, ES and amount of shots available if you could provide. I personally would like to shoot a mid weight pellet like the JBS Exact Heavy 18.0 grains at about 750 to 800 fps and a pellet as light as the Crosman Premier 14.3. The main use of this rifle would be some plinking and ability to hunt squirrels, rabbits and other smaller game. I by the way have a new AF Condor in .22 cal being customized by Talon Tunes. I’m hoping to get in the in 40 plus ft. lbs range with the JBS Exact Monster pellet. I plan to be able to reach out to 75 yards with head shots on groundhogs. I have a lot of prior experience taking groundhogs to 40 yards with my Career 707 Tanker and this my Talon SS in the past. I will in the future post some of my experiences hunting and hears form others. Thanks Airgun Bill

Just stumbled across your post.
I am using the reg, the quick fill and the gauge. Originally had the 500ml bottle on my gun but by adding all these items, the gun had become uncomfortable to shoot due to the added length. Now using 400ml (or 400cc) bottle with flat bottom. This has taken away a couple of the extra inches but reduced the capacity obviously. However while I have the quick fill adapter this doesnt worry me too much as I always take my 10l Fibre tank with me in the car so can refill as many times as I need.
I have the 6mm dia valve which breathes out HUGE amounts of air from the tank into the barrel.
Mine is not spin lock type as I am not in the US so getting parts / upgrades is harder. I was living in the UK where 12 ft lb was the limit but I have moved out of the UK too. No restrictions where I am now so I have maxed the power.
BTW I have two pressure gauges on mine, one to show what the regulated pressure is set to, and the other one to show the bottle present pressure.
I have my regulated pressure set to 150bar.
I still use the bottle itself as stiock.

Sorry for coming back on this topic so late, somehow I didnt see a notification. Perhaps I didnt set them up correctly.
Its been a while since I checked the power on my Talon. From what I can recall through my very bad memory, it was firing at over 40 ft-lbs with Air Arms Diabolo Hunter pelletshttp://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/product/554bab77280d5e4199932803/AIR+ARMS+Diabolo+Hunter+Pellets+-a-8-f-322/. These are 16 grains. However being kinda pointed, meant that pellets were going through every rabbit, pigeon and other birds I was hunting. This meant not an instant kill but I had bought a few of these in 500 tin packs when their price was around half of what it is today. I still have one and a half tin left. Anyways, I then started shooting Bisley Magnums http://www.bisley-uk.com/product_v3.php?i=BIMAA&c=274 These are 21.14 grams and recommended for high power air rifles and for ranges above 50 meters. These are dome shaped and I now have more instant kills now.
I now want to try shooting Bisley Pest COntrol 18.21grains http://www.bisley-uk.com/product_v3.php?i=BIPCA&c=274 to see if the expanding pellets help me with a quicker kill. I have now got 15 tins of these (200 each) from the UK and will try them soon.
Although Im outside the UK now but still used to measuring in ft-lbs as taking into account the pellet weight. Last time I checked in fps on my chrono it was nearly 1050 (I think).
I will have a look at the JBS monster pellet specs. TBH, 75 yards headshots at ground hogs is pretty impressive, hope it gets a good tune by TT and you can achieve the power and accuracy both.
I too have a longer LW (Lother Walther) barrel on my Talon.
Salticon is absolutely correct that if you are using a shorter barrel the velocity will be less. So one good upgrade for you could be to get a longer LW barrel and you will up the power quite a bit.

Nice gun and lovely looking stock. Are you still using the bottle as cheek pad? I wonder if a U-shaped bottle valve will help you at all. Basically the bottle then would fit ideally on the left side (as on the right is loading bolt). I have seen them online but have not needed one as I dont have a stock on mine.
