Q:

Anyone Installed a Depinger?

I am fairly new and just read about installing depingers in PCPs with cylindrical air reservoirs to reduce the “Ping”‘ sound produced on firing. My 25 Vulcan certainly produces a Ping. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

This “ping” is usually only a problem to the shooter. Your head is resting on the source, so naturally it’s going to sound loud. Actually, hammer slap and pellet impact is louder to an onlooker from any distance over 15-20 feet from the gun. I wouldn’t bother with it. “Ping” is an unidentifiable noise to most people. Hammer slap, also an odd noise, is hard to identify with any kind of gun, unless the person listening is familiar with pcp air guns.

If the shroud is doing it’s job, chances are no one will know you are shooting. I usually turn a radio on outside, and have found that the jumble of sounds masks my target practice. Any source of mixed noise will do the same thing. Sprinkler systems, music, burning cats with cigarettes, kicking chickens, or even a running shop vac, will get the job done.

I am well over 500 pellets through my Vulcan.
Twang sounds same as it ever was.
Not really expecting it to change.
The “Twang” gives me no second thoughts about this rifle.
The gun is quiet, just not sneaky quiet.

1500 rounds through mine and no twang to speak of. I would have to double check but it’s night and day difference between now and new.

That is great to know and thanks for sharing as I only have 100 or so thru mine. Look forward to more shooting and fading of the ping/twang

I believe someone or a video pointed out that part #72 “Spring Insert” is intended to quiet the spring as it is brass. If I am correct the steel spring is seating itself into the softer brass with use.

I plan on giving my Vulcan a chance to get the Main Spring fully seated in the brass before I intervene. It could be that intervention would prolong the break in time. I’ll feed it a full 700 rounds.

I doubt the spring will do much more than leave a shiny mark.

My .22 Vulcan has only had the twang of the spring, with no noticeable ping.
With a little over 300 rounds the twaing is probably 1/4 of what is was at first.

I have a .22 and my gun has quieted down some. Ping? I don’t notice much if any ping but there is a spring like noise kind of like a springer would make. It is not as loud as it was when I took it out of the box but it is still there. I have shot no where near 700 pellets through her maybe 250 -300. I expect it to be even quiet at 700 :fishinghole:

Have a .25 Vulcan , when first shot noticed a loud ping and wasn’t sure if at first if it was from the muzzel or trigger slap . As of now have only
been able to to put 60 rounds through it . It is one bad ass shooting out of the box gun that should be what the buyer pays for . My first kill was
a big ass crow at 25 yds. He died on the spot , didn’t even know what killed him . Now I don’t know what the story is , because the loud ping
noise after only 60 shots has already quiet down and I can hear a big difference in the ping noise . I find myself totally stumped . Other
owners say that it takes about 700 shots before the noise starts to reduce in sound and I have only shot my Vulcan with only 60 pellets . Guys ,
any other Vulcan owners have any ideas’ about the noise reduction with my Vulcan . Now I have no complaints . I love this gun , and it is not as
loud as from the very first time I shot it . Not saying it is totally quiet , anybody have any ideas at all .

Have you chronied it? What’s the velocity it’s shooting out of the box

Mine had a sound of someone firing a springer gun at first but it’s very good now but not gone by any means. I can live with it now. I’m sure it would bother others.
