Anyone take the barrel off their vulcan?
I’m planning on shining up the bore with some jb paste to see if I can’t improve my accuracy a bit. However, it looks like the best way to do that would be to take the barrel completely off first so that I don’t get the paste anywhere it’s not supposed to go.
Anyone take their barrel off? What’s the procedure? Is it difficult to get it back on?

Just because you can shoot Gun A accurately does not always mean that Gun B can be shot just as accurately if you apply the same type of shooting style on Gun A that doesn’t work on Gun B. In my experience, a lot of guns demand a unique type of hold, pellet, trigger technique, shooting style, etc. More importantly, I’ve found that the rifles I own must be shot with a different technique than the others. That’s the challenge of owning more than one gun; you’ll have to spend the time to find out what each likes to be fed and how it wants to be shot. And just so that I get it out there for like the umpteenth time (no offense to you): DON’T BE FOOLED – EVEN PCPs CAN BE HOLD SENSITIVE! And yes, even PCPs recoil, just not as much as springers. That group does seem large. My typical groups are 1″ ctc at 50 yds using JSB Jumbos (18.1gr). For a rest I’m using a carpet covered 2×4 frame and no shoulder bag so I’d expect it to improve with a better setup. I rarely get calm wind so that’s playing into it a little.

Did you guys follow any other procedure to shine up your bores, or did you do like I did and just shoot them right out of the box?
Has anyone used jb bore paste with a crown saver flexible cleaning thingy? What are your guys’ expert opinions on that?
There´s a bit of know-how involved in the Barrel removal – or actually the Voodoo starts when you´re about to reattach it. I wouldn´t get into it without knowing how to do it but rather send it back to the seller if it doesn´t shoot right. Mine does ragged hole at 50 meters..
What I have done to a gun that I couldn’t get the barrel off was to load about 3 felt cleaning pellets into the gun. Then work the jb past from the crown and up to the cleaning pellets. I would do about 20 passes then shoot the cleaning pellets out of the gun. I did this about 10 times. I know it isn’t the best way to do it but it did help the gun I did it on. Just be very careful of the crown doing it this way.

Accuracy has been somewhat underwhelming past about 30 yards. At 50 the groups I’ve managed to get are 2-4″ at best. Granted, I’m not an incredible shot, but based on how well I shoot my hw97, I would expect that this thing would give me groups about half that size.
It’s definitely possible that I need to experiment with more pellets as I’ve only tried jsb 18s and 15s, as well as barracudas. However, it seems from what I’ve read that a good scrubbing with j&b paste and bore shine typically improves accuracy at least a bit, and if you do it carefully (i.e. don’t scratch the fuck out of the crown) there is little downside.
I figure if I polish the barrel and find the right pellet then either I’ll get the accuracy I want or at the very least know for certain that it’s me that sucks and not the gun.
Is your gun inaccurate? Do you see any tooling marks near the muzzle?

Yeah, that little stubby vulcan does like to lift a little compared to the long rifles. I have to make use of that flare at the bottom of the handle to apply a little counter torque. Pulling the stock into my shoulder with my bolt hand seems to tighten it up a little.
