AOA EBR
Registered in Pro class for Extreme Bench Rest in Oct, 3months away! I’ll be taking a .25,.22 and .177 Condors. Backed by TalonTunes and Maddog Stocks I’m heading to AZ to take names. Hopefully the Texan will be ready for the 200 yard big bore class next year. Sorry for my absence from TaG, I’ve been working a lot and on the bench when not sleeping. Killing about 3 tins a week practicing. There’s nothing more I want than to put a TT AirForce rifle in the winners circle.

Tony got it… Where? Idk…. Pretty sure Kricket has .25 CZ barrels
I don’t think the smooth twist is all that. They only shoot one pellet good and that is the JSB.
There is a really good .30 barrel out there. I have had one in my .30 for over a year. It’s the same barrel that won last year’s EBR. I keep kicking myself for not going last year.
If the wind is blowing .25 is at a disadvantage over .30 and .35 period. Doesn’t matter gun or barrel.
My .25 isn’t a ST barrel, it’s a CZ hammer forge barrel. My .22 25m will be ST. Win or lose, I know it’ll be fun,
Hey salticon….
Just curious where u have sourced a .25 CZ BARREL?
my understanding that the cz barrels that we all know, Are only produced in .177 and .22. (And this comes from a very reliable source)
Just curious..

To answer your question in a word, NO…….Talking LONG range here….Provided with your comparisons of equal speed, lighter vs heavier bullet, If they both have a NORMAL B.C. (as opposed to lighter bullet with GOOD BC and heavier one the BC of a BRICK) for the bullet design, heavier bullet will have LESS wind deviation but more DROP for given distance. Having LESS wind deviation at distance is a PLUS….Balance is the key between the two…..Testing WILL TELL you your needs…….
Trial and error works GREAT…….Just takes more time, and expense but you will get there, and YOUR education will cost, one way or another…..

what i meant was if 2 different caliber slugs running initially at same fpe, would the smaller cal be better at going against wind since the front surface is smaller? (assuming same design). thanks for sharing the knowledge. i do not have much experience. all ive been doing just trial and error. thanks

Hi Carl, would .25 bullet with the same weight and fps be more at advantages over .30? And in such windy condition, if you let say have a higher twist rate barrel, could run it more stable at higher fps?
Ed
I really don’t know the rules in that AZ match ……I THINK at the 200 yd match, slugs can be used? I have no more need to compete so Salticon would know as he is planning to go.( “Hi Carl, would .25 bullet with the same weight and fps be more at advantages over .30? “”) I doubt it……EVERYONE on these forums is all concerned about HOW FAST……I have tested bullets of different weights into the SUPERSONIC ZONE as i have a CF TANK to work at 4350 psi……….I have never gone past 4000 psi as groups get like double -triple in size ..My 62 gr NOE mold i shoot at 3200 psi at 1090 fps, and have pushed them to 1300 fps, My go to lead is the Lyman 71 gr and it shoots best in the 1070 fps and do that at 3450 psi. The noe 83 shoots well at 980 fps and 3500 psi and is very good at 1040 fps and 3700 psi. I have pushed them all with PSI into supersonic (1125 fps and above) and groups are BIIIIIGGGGGG…….I test how fast i can shoot bullets and WHERE ACCURACY DETERORATES. To slow can be all over too
As with powder, most generally the fastest IS NOT THE MOST ACCURATE…..and in WIND HEAVIER LONG BULLETS ARE BEST YMMV….I ONLY have .257 in air…..ALL MY experience in long range is from POWDER but bullet principles are the same as PHYSICS and BALLISTICS don’t change…………….CARL
Are you guys allowed to shoot slugs?

SALTICON…………Doug is absolutely correct… In a given wind, the heavier bullets move/drift less ……THEY ALL DRIFT but the light one will move MORE if wind the same………BUT there is a THEORETICAL place to point the muzzle that will allow for the drop and drift for every shot to hit the center and trick is knowing where. ALSO the MIRAGE as the target ISN’T WHERE IT SEEMS. Another thing to learn…AND YOU CAN BET, in the desert the wind will BLOW, just a matter of HOW MUCH……In LONG RANGE Powder shooting in calm conditions the smaller calibers and lighter bullets do well but when the wind is UP, all the top shooters go for larger calibers and heavier, longer bullets with better B.C……. Good luck and better instead of cussing the wind, shoot/practice when the wind is BLOWING………As i ALWAYS sAY, with a good rifle a trained monkey can shoot in the calm….Wind will seperate the shooters from the wannabe’s 😯
Carl
Not to argue with you but why wouldn’t they be using .25 bobcats instead of .30 bobcats then.

I was going to build a .357 for it but I think I will just use my .30. Will have to see if I have time.
I don’t think so, and the guy building the gun doesn’t think so either, .30 barrel are hard to come by, and the ammo is choices are narrow. I’m sure Tony’s .25 will perform very well…
Right on! Good luck out there. Will be watching for the results when its done. 3 tins a week is a lot of time on the bench.
Good luck Salt…

I am pretty sure my Cricket .25 barrel is a LW. If you look at kalibrgun’s website all the .25 are LW, I could be wrong so somebody correct me if that is the case.
Good luck out there!
