Q:

AR-15 upper?

I am in the process of building a new toy and would like to pole the group. I would like to know what every one would recommend for an upper to go on my new receiver. I have looked at what Mid-way has to offer and a few other places as well. But I have yet to make up my mind. I sure that at least a few of us have some good info.

Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

Talk to Randall at ar15barrels.com and have him build whatever you like, he’s in socal.

Bull barrels are really heavy and don’t do much for accuracy in an AR anyhow, I just don’t understand their popularity.

I built mine. The upper is a .22LR that I bought off someone on ar15.com. It came with the standard cylindrical plastic handguard so I replaced it with a Daniel Defense 9.0 M4 handguard with magpul rubber inserts. I had to buy a vise grip and barrel wrench tools to do this.

The upper has an m4 top so there’s an eotech mounted on top. I should post pics sometime. I just went with 22lr because the ammo is cheap and have like 3000 rounds of the stuff.

I will defiantly be going with the flat top. And possibly a bull barrel. Don’t know if I should buy the take down and tuning books or not.

I looked at a bunch when I built mine several years ago. Biggest thing to me would be to say get the flattop receiver. It opens up many more sighting options. If you want iron sights, they are made to attach to the grooved upper, like a scope but you still have the option of removing and replacing with optics at a later time.

I built mine from a bare lower receiver (from rock river arms, had to be shipped to an FFL dealer) then bought a lower receiver parts kit and an upper receiver bull barrel kit made by Wilson Arms.

A real tackdriver for a centerfire semi-auto. Good ammo and with me doing my part it will shoot 1/2 moa regularly.

I skipped the aftermarket adjustable trigger and installed adjustment screws similar to the “trigger mod” on the AF guns.
