Are these chrono results fairly typical?
After lurking the forum for a few weeks, I bought a new TSS .22. The first order of business was to chrono and see where I should be setting the power for doves and rabbits:

I was surprised at the results for the shots at power setting 12. I assume this is caused by air blowing by the o-rings?
I’ve been taking doves nearly every day since I got the TSS at power setting 3 and 20-30 yards. I’ll be rabbit hunting this coming weekend and plan to set it to 8. Does the FPE at that setting sound about right for bunnies?
After I have a few hundred pellets through it, I’ll consider mods from Talon Tunes, although after visiting the website, I’m not sure which mods are needed.

Your doing just fine on 8.
Perhaps on your rifle, they are all different, 12 compresses your hammer spring too much and it is not as efficient when it has too much preload.
At least this is the case with really heavy springs in the Condor.
I really doubt it is air passing by, we shoot Condors with heavy pellets and bullets up to 140 FPE or more and dont have that happen.
So unless your gun came to you used the orings are probably fine.

From your numbers it looks like setting 8 is giving you the most bang for the buck. Over the 800FPS mark with the lowest ES, and SD of the group. Not to mention like Harry said that’s plenty of power to knock down up to bunny size game, and I would guess from mine out to 60 yards or more. I can assure you that tree rats drop like a rock at 57 yards in this same power range from my SS. 😀

I’m a scuba diver and have a few tanks filled to 3K. For now I’m using them, but see the wisdom of a compressor in the future.
Man, this TSS is a tack driver! At power setting 2 I shot a dove yesterday in the shoulder and except for a little skin still attached, it took off both wings!
Thats about right. I just leave my power wheel cranked up, that way it is always a constant. Before I put modified Hi-Flo valves in both if my TSS’s 818fps was about the max I could get With a 3k fill, so you are right there 😀
You got plenty of horsepower at pw 5 – 8 for a bunny. What was you fill pressure?
I always was told that the setting knob never really works well.

although large (for small game pellet hunting) rabbits are not that tough. probably on of the easier animals to kill.
