Following is a ListServ message sent out to police agencies. If you could also help get the word out, I would appreciate it.
MCL 750.224(1) prohibits a person from manufacturing, selling, offering for sale or possessing a muffler or silencer.
A muffler or silencer is defined as “a device for muffling, silencing, or deadening the report of a firearm.
Pellet guns fall under the Michigan statutory definition of a firearm. Therefore, it is illegal to have a pellet gun with a silencer or muffler on it. It has recently come to our attention that several pellet guns are on the market in Michigan which have a built-in or internal silencer. Once of these is the Gamo Whisper.
Although they are not regulated by federal law, since federally a pellet gun is not a firearm, they are prohibited by Michigan law. Michigan gun shops should not have them in stock, nor be selling them in this state.
Please help to advise gun shops in your area of this prohibition.

Also Randy’s Hunting Center in Bad Axe, MI has 4 Gamo Whispers on his shelf. He has no problem selling them and I am sure he would know of any law changes.
Actually as I understand it Mich considers airguns firearms and so any silencer on said ‘firearm’ would be totally illegal without the proper tax stamp. So even though you can’t find anything specific the law is pretty clear as it presently sits…
Airgun=firearm, silencers on firearms are against the law without a tax stamp.
just call some one in your local government, they should know what the laws are
I doubt its true considering I can’t find a single thing about it. I also got off the phone with PyramydAir and Airgun Depot and they will (as of today) ship anything to Michigan as long as its over 30″. I am going to order my condor soon which has no moderator anyway.

I would say he posted a state law regarding airguns which should be posted as a sticky on all airgun forums. Unless it’s now against the law to state the law… 🙄

I took a brief look this morning… Here is what I remember…
In Mich. air guns are considered firearms so therefore by extension any air gun with a silencer is illegal even though Federal law states that airguns are NOT fire arms.
Gamo whispers and the like are not to be sold or owned in Mich..
What is rule #11 and why would something so obviously important be deleted on the Yellow??!?!???!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? 😯

I’m new on any forum so I don’t know if this will work. That Post on 54.com is already gone. He Broke rule number 11 so it was deleted. Do you know where it came from or where I can get a copy of what it said? I live in Mi.

Well I just got of the phone with Randy a few minutes ago. They know about this issue and nothing has been released officially. He told me they will continue to sell Gamo Air Rifles until told not to by officials. As of today they told me to come and pick one up if I wanted one.
I can not get a hold of any government official. I will have to try tomorrow during the day.
