Q:

Barrel cleaning – can firearm lead remover be used?

Hi,

I have a question on barrel cleaning. Can firearm lead remover be used? Something like:

http://www.ballistol.de/98-1-Robla-Solo-MIL-Barrel-Cleaner.html

or

http://www.krale-schietsport.nl/en/bore-cleaner-milfoam-forrest.html

There is a statement in EDgun user manual that the substances used for firearms can be used to clean Matador barrel.

Do you have any experience with that?

Thanks!

Thanks Greg

This is my 22 std after some 500 pellets through it, seems to look okay.
Otis bore clean seems to work better for me than Ballistol in removing lead.

After 4,000 shots so far the accuracy although good, it still hasn’t improved very much from the 3/8″ ctc at 50 yards.
Chrony is still the same with ES at 14 and SD at 3.
I may need to rebuild and clean out the reg, but the gun is still quite new.

Keyser, could you do that?

Thanks but we would like to see the interior of the barrel. The choke area as it is in the sample picture. We need to determine the level of leading there.

Well into 750 rounds (.25 caliber)

Nefarion had this kind of photo on his mind:

Please post these photos from your guns together with the number of pellets which were shot since last barrel cleaning.

That will be interesting.

Thank you for answers. keyser if you can post pictures of your guns like:

I would compare.

Shooter, it’s pretty good. There is another lead remover from bore tech that I think is much better.

As far as cleaning the bore I honestly shoot a lot before cleaning. The Lelya I shot in the video had (at the time I made the video) almost 1500 rounds through the gun and I have never cleaned it. I have never cleaned my .30 and I am up to almost 1k rounds. It still shoots just as well as it did for me when I had 100 rounds through the gun. What’s weird is the .25 EDgun seems to need a lot less cleaning since I switched to Air Arms pellets. The .25 Matador seems to be good for about 500 rounds in between cleanings.

I know a very good bench rest shooter who claims he NEVER clean his PCP barrel.

a lot more than 350 shots. about 500-700 shots before the accuracy goes bad. and yes it depends on the batch of jsb.

If accuracy is going bad, it is mostly more than 350 or less? dirty depends on the batch of JSB?

I clean after 350 shots. or when the accuracy goes bad.

Keyser, how often cleaning in .25 cal ? 100, 200, 300 shots?

Ok, so you use Ballistol Robla and Ballistol Lube. What do you think about Robla? Is is a good lead remover?

I use the Balistol because Ed said to use it. I use the Balistol lube as well. My only concern is using harsh Petroleum distillates on the EDgun because there is a breech O ring. The metal in the barrel is stronger than any cleaner.
