Q:

barrel diameter affect on shroud length.

I have a 12” .22 barrel on my condor with a 5” shrould on the end with baffeles stacked back to the front bushing. makes for a very quiet gun, but I would like the added velosity a 18 or 20” barrel would offer me, but I like the short carbine look, but I also like quiet and a long shroud doesnt appeal to me.
I think the 12” barrels are around 12mm and the longer ones are always 16mm.
Is there such a thing as a 20”, .25cal , 12mm barrel? and would the smaller dia. allow a more effecent dispersement of air thru the baffel system? So the shroud could be shorter vs some of the broom handles
Ive saw on some condors.

Thanks,

You would gain more volume by adding an inch to the shroud. An 18″ barrel only has about 6.5″ (give or take) of barrel ahead of the last bushing. The volume difference wouldnt add up to a mouse fart.

deltal pi rsquared h is the basic fomula, but there are a number of conversions when talking mm and inches.

I’m sure you could get on cut down to 12mm if you really wanted it but is 4mm in diameter difference going to make up enough volume inside of the tube to be able to shorten the over all length?

4mm is about .16 of an inch, so I don’t think your gaining anything substantial, but perhaps one of the math gurus could give a true answer as to how much air volume it picks up over 8 inches.
