Q:

Barrel Fussy and Spiraling, what is the reason??

Guys,

however we have discussed these issues long time ago,,,but i would like to discuss it again and there might be more good idea with some new members or other old members that have got more experience now,,,

i just wondering to know why some of the barrels will be pellet fussy or shooting spiral?? is it from the factory reason ?? or it is because of the user??

pellet fussy and spiraling will happen only with choked barrels or none choked barrels??

what is the main reason that create the spiraling and make the barrel become pellet fussy,,,???? what is the solution?? how can we treat with the guns to avoid us from these

my Edgun long .22cal was spiraling at 900 FPS ,,,while my .22 cal STD shooting very accurate and straight even at 970 FPS without spiraling….

now, i got Short .22cal and STD .25cal ,,but still not checking for the spiraling…

i wounder to know only these happening with small calibers or happen with .30cal or bigger???

I am not sure 970 is overpowered. The speed of sound is 343 mps or 1125 fps. But even under there it can get unstable, however 970 is 130 fps under so should be fine right? I would guess somewhere at +-50 fps from sound barrier is where things get crazy, but once again, it is a guess, so take it with a grain of salt :2cents:

my STD .22cal shoots 970 FPS without any spairaling,,,

my pellets are very very good,,, even i cannot find one damaged skirts or bad shapes … here is some .25cal ..

i usually clean the barrels after 500 shots for .25cal and 300 or 400 shots for .25cal ….

i use to clean the barrels and check the barrel all the way if there is a imperfections ,,,

unstable shooter might achieve opened groups ,,, not spairaling ,,,i think,,, :smilen:

what else we must consider ?? good reply and info Cricket ….. we will follow your comments ,,,but if still there is???

If everything is clean and right I suspect the choke or crown of the barrel.

But the real experts will kick in very soon to try to answer your question with supporting arguments.

Interesting question, here are some of my thoughts:

Overpowered pellet
Damaged pellet (such as the skirt)
Dirty barrel
Slight imperfections to the barrel crown

Another thing might be the locktime? If it takes very long for the pellet to leave the barrel the shooter might be unstable after pulling the trigger thus disturbing the pellets flight after leaving the barrel?

Just my thoughts, looking forward to more professiomal awnsers.
