Basement Range
After sawtime provided some inspiration here, http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5507 , I got to thinking and decided my garage is too cold in the winter to enjoy shooting for long and too small for any real fun except blasting army men at 20 feet. So I started on my christmas present to myself.
2 door steel cabinet, fully lined with self adhesive duct insulation to dampen sound. I’ll need to sprayglue some cloth over it to kill the reflection but it works quite well to take the twang out of thin metel. My whole jeep is lined with it under the carpet. I reinforced the top 2 shelves to carry the weight of the .22 rimfire trap. When I’m done, I lock my pistols in, roll it into the corner and call it a day.
My basement goes pretty much unused except for storage and I have a fairly long house. I can just get 18yrds for the Talon and have marks set at 5 and 10 meter for the pistols (P3 and a 2300S) and occasional 10 meter with the SS.
In the lower left corner you’ll see my favorite pellet trap for the pistols. An extra heavy 9×12 cookie sheet with .5inch of duct seal. works perfect and with the duct seal rolled smooth the paper targets stick flat right against it. And it’s super portable unlike the monster duct seal trap behind it.

Thanks – it has been so far. I just keep rotating guns so as not to get bored. Just got my adjustable scope mount for the SS. Now I might actually be able to zero the scope at 10m (currently impossible on mine) and have enough elevation adjustment left to easily adjust to to my indoor 18yd and/or the 30yds I can squeeze out in the backyard.

yes im burning gas ….its close to freezing at night, and as most homes in this area, theres single sheet glas windows, letting out most of the heat and cold, roof got some paper insulation that has collapsed not functioning right….and floor is just raised no insulation there….TG its a rental
aircon might get some energy from windmills(they hope to hit 20% supply from renewables), but i bet 90% is nuclear or fossil fueled
so the answer is yes i do burn fossil fuel to heat and cool my home, allthough its MUCH less (about 1/5th)than what we used on the east coast, funny enough that house wasnt insulated much either even though we hit sub zero temps several times.
our house in DK the walls had 200mm airrated concrete (gas concrete) which insulates great + 150mm rockwool then bricks, roof was insulated by 300mm rockwool, energy windows (2 layer glass with film in between), both doors and windows has sealing “foam” rubber gaskets that seal tight. and DK has the gulf stream carrying warm waters by…so we dont see the extremes often we used about the same money as here in the bay area….but remember thats including alot of taxes
thats not to say i dont understand why it is like this…back 30+ years it was cheaper to just build like they did and burn a bit more oil, same thing in DK, but DK has been on the forefront with its high income, sales and energy taxes, which has driven people to smaller “greener” cars, and they have insulated their homes, when oil hit 130$ a drum, America started to feel the “burn” so to say, all of a sudden unnecessary big/4wd cars got cheap, and home depot was selling rockwool insulation to every house owner…..
i think is a bit off topic, back on track i still wish i had my old basement where i could fire off basicly what i wanted, and no one would know

That’s not what mylar is used for on exposed walls here in the states and especially not in Ca, although the lights do heat the place :11

😀 Stocked up for the indoor season. 60 tins of those are the cheapest pellets I could find. 20 Each of the 2.99 Beeman Wads, Hollow Points and the 5.49 Gamo Match Wads.
On a half inch bull at 5M I’ll shoot 7-8 out of ten bulls, at 10M 4-5 bulls and see very little difference between the $13 tins and the $3 tins with the pistols. My best ever 60 round string with my 2300S was just 2 days ago with the 2.99 wads. So it’s hard to justify spending 3x as much on pellets.
The SS is a whole different story. She likes a higher quality diet when she knows I want her to hit what I’m aiming at.
Like Cygnus X almost said… that’s the foil backing on sheet insulation nailed right to the poured concrete wall 😡 . I would have done it differently and better. The basement was partially finished when we moved in, I’m shooting into the unfinshed side.

but someplaces on earth insulation is used to save a few bucks on the heating and cooling cost of a home[irony off]
or it could just be he belives that aliens are listening to his brainwaves and tin foil is the only thing blocking the waves….in that case you should try an organic armadillo hat
