Q:

Been thinking

I know it’s odd, but I was thinking.

How about a multi shoot Condor type set up?

I have thought long and hard on how to do that and the current excepted method of firing the thing (ie spring & hammer) has been getting in the way.

How do you get another lead thingy in there with all that motion.

With out all that motion the solution seem more straight forward. Then how to get rid of all that motion.

Here comes the thinking part, do not use a spring and hammer.

Use a electric solenoid. Put it in the tank with the valve seat and open the valve with the motion of the solenoid. That could mean no motion outside the tank, only the mechanism to load the lead thingy.

Then one could use a rotary magazine to hold the lead thingies and the operation would be as follows.

1. Load magazine.
2. Index lead thingy into alignment with bore of barrel.
3. Hit switch (trigger) to power (open valve seat) solenoid.
4. Rotate magazine so another lead thingy is lined up with bore.
5. Repeat until all lead thingies in the magazine are gone.
6. Repeat, etc. etc.

Rotating the magazine is the only thing that would move, no more cocking the hammer, no more hammer bounce, etc.

Since one would use a Capacitor discharge circuit to control the solenoid, then one could change the open time of the solenoid/valve seat to change power output.

As soon as I can figure out a Capacitor discharge circuit the rest would be mainly machining and hand winding a coil for the solenoid.

Comments anyone?

Syn,

Actually they are three of the best mods done to the Shoebox in case you don’t have one and don’t know, the 4th would be the hardened rods.

The fan idea got us users putting fans in or blowing on the cynders and motor whkich greatly reduced the rebuild time, and the fins helped cool it more.

And yes the TAG is a Dysfunctional group of assholes no doubt about it. But that is the way it is, you either put up with it or go to another forum.

RC

Civil and TAG may be too much to expect actually. 😉 😆

I found justforfun’s post to you overly condescending as well as his remarks to a few folks here who have been innovating and ‘cutting & drilling’ stuff for years.

Funny, he was so nice back in the beginning when he was getting all kinds of good information from the forum… 😕

Moderated doesn’t necessarily mean deleting things. Just knowing that a civil level of behavior is expected. If someone is acting in appropriately, typically a polite private note handles the issue and they get more out of the list.

Anyways, TAG is great to have, even if you have to learn who to ignore.

We appreciate new ideas & new directions. I think most if not all of us realize that our hobby is at a fantastic place. Technology and ingenuity are enabling advances in accuracy and performance. Although the AF rifle platform may not be the best out there, it does make for a fantastic test-bed for new ideas. Thanks for offering to share yours.

If shitting on the shitter is what I do i’ll agree with you but I think you got me mixed up with the original shitter who shit on sanguish. 😉

I’m all for innovation and think this forum is full of talented folks who cut and drill amazingness from woods and metals (things that justforfun is shitting on). Some even take existing ideas and tweak them into better things (what justforfun was harping on).

So I was defending the people of this forum, not shitting on them actually. So we’ll just chalk this up to your newbieness wolfe, if not may I suggest a couple of reading comprehension classes. 😉

Actually, the Un-monderated nature of the TAG is one of the things I really value. The Yellow drives me nuts with its deleted posts because someone didn’t obey one of Steve’s obscure rules….

Well that’s a refreshing thing. He isn’t the first I’ve seen though.

I’ve moderated a list for 10 years and it’s never had this level of behavior. It’s pretty shocking really when you are used to the other behavior.

Sadly it takes moderation that I know Tony and Adam don’t have the time for, or just allow the board to be what it is (an approach that I can see being interesting).

But thanks for the comment. I wonder what the percentage is. :-/

Where would one get such a beast?

You get something like that, by thinking it out, working out the issues and making it yourself.

It appears that we need a new forum, one that is titled “make it yourself/new ideas”, not mods that you buy from someone and bolt on or a person that threads (machinist) something and calls that a part make by a machinist.

There used to be people on this forum that made things from scratch on this forum, more than just band sawing, drilling a couple holes, tapping a hole or two and calling it shop made.

Been awhile since I read anything that was truly a new idea. Guess the makers are making ( not posting ) and the rest are talking about it.

So much for innovation.

Looking for constructive ideas, thanks.

Wow. Why is this forum, indeed all of TAG just so angry and dismissive.

My statement was not “I wonder where I can buy such a thing”, but I wonder were such a solenoid could be gotten to work on such an implementation.

No need at all to be condescending. Unless that’s the way the forum is supposed to be.

BTW, I have been working on a project. And it’s actively being tested in various forms to see if it works at all, and then if it’s useable to others. So I AM making things for the system. I just am smart enough not to post info about them here because someone will always shit on your work or idea, because that’s what they do.

Think of what could be accomplished with cooperation on these items.

Whatever

And that is exactly what he is dissing people here about.

Nothing new lately.

Plus, what is so innovative about adding cooling fins and a fan to things that get hot and a pressure shut off switch to a machine that compresses air? 😕

Syn,

Again I am going by memory and mine is not the best, but I believe he made the entire 308, frame and all on his own.

I also think he was the first or at least the first I saw that put internal fans, finned cylinders and a pressure switch shutoff on the Shoebox, which is now factory options for the Shoebox.

Just saying he has done more than talk in the past.

RC

I’m confused… It’s like a previous maker who left has come back to complain about his own absence. 😕

How about YOU make the thing you spoke of in your original post…

You make it sound so easy, where is the finished parts for us to drool over? 😯 Lots of people have proposed a multi-shot adapter for an AF rifle and apart from fairlyincon not many have actually done much and then called everyone jerks after they don’t do much but talk, this is just another one of those posts I guess…

Newsflash, a 308 based on an AF rifle is NOT innovation, it’s piggybacking…

No?

Let’s see it then, put up or shut up, that’s what you are saying right? And if most folks here are just ‘drillers and cutters’ what possible input could they have over your superior innovating abilities? 🙄

Make it if you are a maker. Let’s see it, prove you aren’t just like those you are shitting on…

If I remember correctly, Justforfun has come up with some great ideas.

Some of them are being used onthe Shoebox and they came first from him. He also made his own 308 Condor based Rifle from scratch.

I truely doubt a AF mag fed AF rifle is possible unless you get away from that spring and hammer breech valve concept used presently on them, which is a host of other problems, but I would not be so fast to ho hum this fellows ideas.
