Best .25 pellet for wind
Well, today I found out the pellets I am shooting don’t buck the wind that well. :angrymob: What is your best pellet for windy conditions? The heavier the better I am assuming? Or do .25s just not like the wind at 75 yards? It seems they would do just fine… 😕

Yep, he is right, i tried the slugs WITH the choke then i REMOVED the choke. It was night and day. Plus my gun made tons of power in which the slugs LOVED.
I was able to achieve a 1″ – 100 yard group with Jerry’s slugs.
Even though NOW i cast my own bullets and i have a 257 bore barrel, i would still shoot his slugs today IF HE MADE THEM IN 257 caliber 😉
This is not a plug (sorta…lol), his slugs are CRUSHERS and are great for hunting and they are a great addition to the ammo market for you guys that have no interest in casting and or getting a 257 barrel. Chancers videos show just how devastating they are……………………. :8:
Thanks for the plug Ced! I would add that in addition to the barrel being set up for pellets, the gun has to have the power and barrel length to use the slugs. The slugs have a much higher BC than pellets (due to sectional density mostly) and will work with choked barrels but you can’t just take a gun set up for pellets and pop in a slug and expect a miracle. The shooter has to expect to make some changes to the gun’s settings to go from a 32gr pellet to a 60-88gr slug.
I try to be polite, but I get too many emails telling me that the gun that was set up to shoot JSBs doesn’t “like” the slugs. After an exchange, I discover that the gun owner has little idea what velocity he’s getting with light pellets much less heavy slugs and has little idea that airguns don’t just auto-compensate for dramatically different projectiles.
Between the Kodiaks and the JSB’s and possibly the Eun Jins, the BC’s are pretty much the same or very close. SO close that .002, .003, .004 won’t make a knat hairs difference. In other words, a pellet with a bc of .033 vs one at .037 (figuratively speaking) will still unimpress you in windy conditions.
Knife and I have the same environmental conditions and that is that its always windy were we live. Some days are really good for pellet guns here in So Cal and some days are bullet days only…….lol.
For wind, i’d suggest Jerry’s slugs for sure if your barrel is set up for pellets right now
.25 pellets will get blown around just like .22s and .177s because most of them have the same low BCs. If you want to reduce wind drift, the answer is not just mass or caliber or velocity; it’s higher BC. Real world results mirror the math but the math is not intuitive. You’d think a heavier pellet would drift less just because it’s heavier or maybe you’d think a high speed projectile would not have as much time to drift but both intuitive ideas are just plain wrong.

I’m in Central Oregon and its always windy here. I gave up on anything lighter than .22 pellets here, but even the .25’s get blown all over.

If your gun has the oats to shoot it, the 9 ring slugs at about 88gr do well in the wind. Mass matters!

Now that you say that knife, it makes sense why so many people shoot bullets as apposed to pellets. Thanks for all the feedback evervyone! It helps me to understand my gun better!
No Pellet bucks the wind well. But the heavier the better. This is exactly why many of us use the better BC propeties of Bullets in our guns. Such as the .257’s that are so popular.
I was shooting my .257 Talon/Dor at 80 yards Sat. in 25-30 mph winds and doing just fine and getting 1to 1-1/4″ groups. I wouldn’t have bothered shooting at all with a regular pellet projectile. Just not worth the trouble.

Yep! ANd Jerry and Tof. will remember the groups I got back a few years back when Beta testing the “Jerry’s Slugs”. Even though my barrel still had it’s choke, I got some FANTASTIC Groups!
This doesn’t always happen with a choke, but——It often does with the Jerry’s Slugs. You just have to try them for your self.
For shooting heavier game, with a stock AF Gun, They are the ONLY Way to go. And with a little work on the valve, they can be devastating!
