best bipod position and new night vision!!!
This is a rock mount bi-pod (walmart). Many were concerned with placement of the bi-pod through the set screws along the barrel, i.e. putting unwanted pressure on the barrel affecting accuracy…. I too was worried about this, so I simply removed the fore grip and used the most forward dimple that is found inside of the arm as my guide to drill a hole through the grip with a 3/16″ bit, and as aforementioned in a previous topic I used a 10-32 sling stud easily found at any gun shop or at wally world via Uncle Mikes sling swivel mount kit (8.95) I inserted the stud through the drilled hole and placed the nut next to it on the inside of the fore grip to allow me to discern how much of the stud I had to cut off. Cut off with hacksaw or band saw, a dab of locktight and its as easy as that. The benefit of this placement is that it alleviates any concerns of negatively affecting point of impact, and it also gives the bi-pod a much wider base to mate up to. I have large hands and I still have plenty of room left on the grip to hold the rifle comfortably. This placement also seems to be perfectly balanced (for me that is). If you have any questions send me a line. The night vision scope you are looking at is an ATN gen 2+ ps22 attached to a Nikon 3x9x40mm prostaff. Nothing beats taking out those varmints under the cover of complete darkness @ any range the rifle is capable of! And to make it even better, we have a report of a rabid gray fox running around our neighborhood. It made national news (port saint lucie, Fl) Peace!

Thats cool. I was being a little presumptuous/cantankerous and I deserved GTBJ’s verbal lashing. In retrospect, he prompted me to educate myself some more. It kind of reminded me of one of my uncles growing up. He would turn his ring around on his finger and crack you upside the head with his hand leaving a quarter sized “speed knot” on the side of my head.
When I looked up at him with tears in my little eyes he had the common decency to explain what I did that caused that new lump. God rest his soul, he was a good man. 🙂

I have no doubt in my mind that the screw will strip the (overly) soft aluminum threads in a few days or after a couple of days of use or shooting sessions. I would bet $ on it.. Ask me how I know 8)
Those threads seriously don’t take much at all to strip.. One of my Condors, all it took was 2-3 times to pick it up out of the gun cabinet by the forend grip (pulled it forward before I can grab it with 2 hands), and that was it. Stripped threads. It was just habit grabbing all my other (wood frame) Springers or powder burners and pulling them towards me out of the cabinet. Now all 3 Condors are in hard cases on the floor, because I know I would make the same mistake again if I put any of them back in the gun cabinet.
So 80Grit: Since you sound pretty honest, please let us know when the threads are stripped, and I won’t say we told you so, promise! 😆

80 grit, they grill everyone here. Don’t feel like you’re getting picked on. A few judicious ‘fuck yous’ and everyone’ll be fine. Judging from your .sig, you’re a religious person so that’s probably not the best suggestion, but there it is.
Any chance of a pic through the lens using the NV? I’ve seen such devices on the current generation of military issue sniper weapons, although those fold the light path over to keep the optics short and higher than the front of the weapon. Really neat, I didn’t expect to see a civilian counterpart for years but ATN seems to have fielded an entry already.
I have tried mounting my PVS-14a to the rear of my day optic but problems arise. It increases by FAR the distance your head is held to look into the contraption, so either you shoot from behind the buttstock holding the gun in front of you like a telescope, or your get a huge long picatinny on it so you can remount the day optic farther forward when night shooting, which defeats the whole purpose since it requires resighting to confirm zero. Might as well have a dedicted night optic instead.

do you understand what a fulcrum point is, how it works, and were it distributes stresses to?
the way Tony mounted that it much stronger than what you have going, it is tapped directly in to the frame with no give what so ever which means in the real world the stresses are distributed evenly.
10/32 is not a large sized bolt, funny but it’s a screw not a bolt, and it has almost nothing to do with the screw, that hardened screw will not strip it has to do with the aluminum it’s going in to that is nice and soft and will strip quite easily.
your starting to come off as a pompous know it all, my suggestion to you is kick back and do a bunch of reading and learning before you start claiming, all of the information you seek and need to learn is here for your enjoyment so get your reading glasses out and get to it.

Well, as far as the Avatar goes, I was talked into watching the movie. I knew nothing about it, and didn’t know billoy-bob was in it. From the title, I assumed it was a gore flick.
I was surprised. Billy Bob did a good job in this one. That wasn’t an east role to play. In fact, it took a while to recognize him.
