I have a .22cal Condor SS, and if I bought another Condor it would be an SS in .25. That .25 pellet really smacks ‘um. Don’t know what pellets you are deciding on but for me the JSB King Heavies (34gr), are very accurate, have a good BC, and smack ‘um.

For me, the 25gr .25 cal pellets are on the light side, I would use the H&N Barracuda (31gr), or the JSB King Heavy as my main pellet of choice, the King Heavy is my main 25 caliber pellet in my Condors for general hunting Ground Squirrels, Jacks, Pigeon and the like. If you plan on Coyote in the 40-50ish yard range I might consider the Eun Jin Heavy (43gr). They fit in the bore tight but in my guns have been more than hunting accurate. Be sure your speed is up so you don’t have a looping trajectory, and be sure at your chosen velocity your groups are small …. you have to be inside a quarter (maximum group size) at 50 yards all the time as you are going for the brain —– your groups really should be at max an inch in diameter !

The energy you get driving these heavy pellets at ~900fps is plenty …. the key is pellet placement. Accuracy and correct pellet placement is the most important aspect of airgun hunting … power is nice and it is fun to brag about … but accuracy brings home the bacon !

i agree.

my goodness…i have a 22 cal Talon i converted to Condor and even at #9 on power setting and a 14.3 grain Crosman premier hunting pellet, it will completely penetrate a tempered alum, non-stick, skillet bottom from 31 yards…

All depends on what you are shooting at, and at what distance. My fav hunting pellet for longer range would be .25 king. I mainly use 3 different cal. For small game id go for .177 using 10.34gr at 1000fps. This is still sub inch at 50m. Then if u hunt for wild pig like manny, id use .25. I have 1 bottle with high power valve (close range pig hunting) and one with regulator to use king at 880 900fps for longer range in a windy area like duck hunting at the pond etc. And for slightly longer range pig hunting up to 70 80m range, id go for 9mm 200fpe plus. They all serve specific purpose

I uses to hunt pig close range (waiting up in tree) with .177. 19grain going 1050fps. Have taken up to 80kg. I usually do 2 more follow up shots just to make sure but i know its not needed.

I think this is the beauty of afc, cover most of what we need

Get the 25 and in a few weeks just get a 22 barrel for it.

I know to keep the speed in the 900’S I was wondering about the same weight pellet. Say a 25 grain .22 vs a 25 grain .25 what would be better?

quote Blacktalon6:

What would the shot difference be between the two (.22 & .25) If you were to use close to the same weight pellet?

Usually folks change to a larger caliber because they are getting to much speed and accuracy is starting to fade a bit. A larger caliber allows speed in the mid 900’s with heavy for caliber pellets and get much better down range energy.

You are much better off shooting a 25 cal with 34gr pellets at 950, then a 21,1 gr 22 at 1075+, in general the heavier pellet will be more stable and keep it’s velocity over a longer distance. You don’t want to be shooting at the speed of sound for sure !

Almost impossible question to answer.

If you are going after pest starlings and pigeons a .22 may be your answer using JSB Jumbo heavies and tone it down to about 850-875 fps so you get more shots.

If you are going after Ground Hogs a .25 might be better using a heavy pellet. Same is true if you live where pigs are, you may want 25 and a heavy pellet, or maybe .22 with a heavy pellet which will give you lots of penetration. A .22 in general will give you a few more shots.

It all depends on you and your use … one is not better, they are different !
