Best PW setting for CO2?
I did a search here on the board and got some good info, but I’d like to get a final verdict.
I’ve got a Talon SS, modded with a 24 inch barrel and I’m using CO2.
Shooting Premiers, Predators, and Jumbo Exacts.
Just so ya know, I’m from the school of thought that says there has to be an “11” on the amplifier dial… 😆
But in this case, I’m reading that when it comes to CO2, dialing down the PW might be more efficient…Yes? Or no?
FWIW, I’m target shooting and doing some pest control, I need Extreme Prejudice for small critters out to about 30 yards max, but 99% will be inside of 25 yards.
I don’t have a chrony, and I’m not going to get one anytime soon, so your best recommendation will do just fine.
What’s the BEST all-around PW setting for a hybrid Talon/Condor on CO2?

You will have fun, even my .22 SS with 12″ has plenty of killing power.

Thanks Roger…Yeah, it’s looking like I’ll have a bunch o’ fun with this thing… I went out today and shot for about an hour or so (using bench rest and CPs) and pretty much kept everything inside of a quarter at about 30 yards… and I’m a complete newbie to AF stuff!
I guess I’ll have to start working on nickel-size groups next. Then dimes, of course!
I don’t shoot a lot of critters, but there’s a particular type that’s going to be in for a very very rude surprise when they decide to visit next Spring. 😀

Set up your Target at the MAX range you plan on shooting it. Set the wheel at its highest level and Shoot a few rounds, decrease the power wheel a bit, shoot some more, decrease the wheel a bit again and keep doing that until you notice a change in POI – The change in POI means your gun is shooting slightly slower so you can either up the wheel a bit back to where it was just before the last shots for the most power or leave it as is. Thats the most efficient setting for your gun.

Using a Chrony, I found both my rigs are maxed out at about PW-6/7. Anything more just makes a cloud of c02 out the end of the barrel, more noise, and reduces shot count.
Take 6 as a point of reference and use YN’s technique above to tweak that to your gun.
Without a Chrony… to get the most efficient PW setting i.e. most shots at the most power with CO2 do the following –

You need a chrony to optimize your gun. Until them just do your best to find a setting that hits the hardest.
Anyone have 2 cents for this question?
I’ve got no prob cranking the PW up to the max, that’s actually where I’ve got it right now.
But IIRC, I think I read a post or two that says that cranking the wheel all the way up isn’t necessary in order to get the full punch from a CO2 tank. But as I recall, they were statements without much detail.

I find the same thing with my Talon. Only it starts a little under four for me. The 12 inch .22 barrel hits 580 fps and doesn’t go any faster. I forget exactly what the 24 inch barrel does, something around 700 fps, but it too tops out under four on the PW.
FWIW, my buddy sees the same thing with his microflow tank on his Condor frame. Basically one energy, the PW doesn’t change it.
