Best scope for $200 or less?
I’d like at least 50mm and range estimation… I don’t understand why airgun scopes are so much cheaper than ones you find in gunstores like Leupold etc. Anyway, looking for something $200 or less. I’ve looked at centerpoint and also like the Leapers, and the airforce one looks good also.
I also want illuminated, and also adjustable strength.
Suggestions? Thanks

i have had a bunch of leapers, my main complaint would be the turrets, they click nicely and all…but turn click it 10 clicks up to compensate and back down and it will be off, as well as wander from left to right a bit…alot of times weird thing would happen, like cliking 5 turns in a direction, and all of a sudden the rifle would be off by inches
i dont like leapers….they are what they are a cheap entry level scope with lots of features you want…but its inability to be reliable every time, and being a pain to zero….i would steer clear of it
tasco varmint 2.5-10×42 is awesome….it has a yellow tint which i dont like, but at 60 bucks this scope has held zero since i set it back last summer when i got my aa410, turrets are nice and performs like expected, stay clear of the 6-18 version though, glass and the tint makes the high zoom levels look like crap
buddy of mine got the simmons prohunter 6-21, they come with alot of features like sidewheel, tagetturrets, milldot and is lightweight….reading over their add it seems like thay have worked hard on getting the turrets to zero properly everytime….my buddy marks it above both bushy banner and trophy, downside is there is no distance markings on the sidefokus…ohh and best of all , it is very clear….i got a simmons 3-9×40 and i must say thats a very clear scope indeed
midway currently has the bushy legend 5-15×40 on sale for 166, add 34$ more and you can apply 20$ coupon code HUNT108 (they have mounts and pellets to get you over 200$)
for 200 $ i would go simmons aetec or prohunter, or the bushy legend 5-15×40 if its for a pcp, im not sure how they will hold up on a springer.
finding a bushnell 4200 6-24×40 under 400 is going to be hard !, i recently tried to get some info on these scopes versus MTC, which are both in the very good end of scopes….the bushy i was told better optically, but the MTC has more features(sidewheel and illumination)
I have a 6-24x50AO illuminated Webley with Mil Dot. In like brand new condition for $80 if you are interested. Not a blemish on it. Been in storage most if its life.
You might also look @ the AO on the scopes too, like Side wheel adjustable. Much easier to use than the AO on the end of the scopes.
Here is a nice scope for under $200.

Weighs just under 2 pounds…
Multi-coated optics for brightness and high contrast, even in low-light conditions
10-40X magnification
HUGE 50 mm objective for top light gathering clarity
Nitrogen purged to be 100% waterproof, fogproof and shockproof
Finger-adjustable 1/8″ M.O.A. windage and elevation “click” adjustments
Side turret-mounted adjustments for parallax correction on tricky shots
3.6″ eye relief
5″ sunshade protects your view from rain and glaring sun
Fast-focus eyebell
F.O.V. @ 100 yds. is 2.6′ at 10X, .9′ at 40X
Includes 30 mm mounting rings
30 mm tube measures 21 1/2″l., weighs 31 1/4 ozs.
The new leapers scopes with the 30mm tubes and 56mm objectives are nice. My old 6-24×50’s magnifications spins pretty easily. The magnification on my 8-32×56 needs a pipe wrench. Of course, when either target shooting or hunting, I don’t change magnification much, so it’s not a big deal.
The side wheel helps with stiff parralax knobs. Gives you a good bit of leverage.
The focus ring is a bit stiff though, not able to change focus or magnification without using two hands and swearing here and there…
Not good for FT shooting at all.
You then need one of these and they work great:
Mine will focus to 15 feet without a problem…

I have the Leapers 6-24×50 and it has all that your looking for $99. there are better scopes for less than $200 but the Leapers and the CenterPoint Adventure Class 6-24x50mm are good buys for the money. I have the big Bushy 4200 and a Legend 5-15 and both are better than the one’s I listed above. My 6-24×50 Leapers is working out just fine but keep in mind that the min. focusing on it is around 15yards and it will not go down to 10 yards.

Thanks walkon I’ll have a look…
I also like this one from centerpoint:

I have a Bushnell Legend 5-15 40mm scope coming. It gets rave reviews and it sells for $174 at opticsplanet.com

That’s the 2nd time I’ve gotten great advice from you on my posts; thanks! I’ll check that out.
Thanks also to everyone else… I’m learning toward a .25 condor soon and want a good scope at 100 yards so I think I’m going to save a bit longer for this setup.
Some airgun/airgun-rated scopes ARE expensive: Bushnell 3200 and 4200 Elites, Leupold makes two models also, Burris, MTC Vipers, etc.
Ronald; While I agree that ‘buying the best’ is optimal, to get you started with a worthy scope try an A1 Optic Rifle scope 4-16×50 No Glare Rangefinder. You can find the seller on eBay.
I’ve two of these and they seem to have what you’re looking for to include: parallax adjustment, lighted crosshairs (both red and green in the same scope), range estimation and the ability to change from 4 power to sixteen. I agree that a 50mm objective lens is the way to go.
These aren’t the same quality as the Luepolds that I use on my powder burners, but they do the trick for less than $100.00 delivered. Here’s the eBay store that I’ve purchased from with no regrets.

I had a leapers 4-16×56 and a 8-32×56 and liked them both. I only sold them because they were a bit too big. I also had a 3-12×44 leapers and the picture was horrible.
Not 50mm like you stated, but having had scopes larger than 50mm and not noticing much, if any benefit at this price point over a 40mm scope I’d take a look at the 2.5-10x42mm Tasco Varmint scopes. I have two (one is illuminated, one not) and think they are great. If I get another gun I’ll get another illuminated one to put on it. Only about $60.

I like them much better than the leapers.
Suggestion, save your money until you can afford $300 or so. Look for a Bushnell 4200 6-24×40 Mildot with AO, used over at some of the long range boards like Sniper Country, Sniper’s Hide or Sniper’s Paradise. Lot’s of guys start with this scope (or something similar) before moving up to Nightforce, US Optics, IOR or other high end, long range scopes. Just a suggestion but you probably won’t be happy with the less expensive glass. And you’ll find yourself upgrading anyway.

Scope thoughts of my own. If i had to do it again i’d get one with the side wheel paralax adjustment so you don’t have to reach all the way to the end of the lense. The input of the rest is all good. Leapers and Centerpoint are good scopes with alot of features for the money. Have had my leapers for 2 yrs now without any trouble. Mil-dot recticle is very useful for hold over or under once you figure out the magnification and distance between dots the scope can be used for different distance zeros.
Mine is set at power 8 every dot is a 10yd difference at that mag. I’m zeroed 40yds 3 dots down is 10yds, 3 dots up is 70yds. this is the ranges i shoot at. A differnt mag will give you a different distance between the dots, very useful once you figure out your prefered mag and the spacing between dots.
The lighted recticle is a nice feature for shooting at dawn/dusk when you can’t see the black dots. I don’t use it alot, but when you need it, its nice to have.
You don’t need 50mm, 40 is just as good i can’t tell the difference when looking through the glass.
Get a scope which will fit your needs and not your wants. You might end up with a nicer scope this way. what distances are you going to be shooting at? do you need a 32 mag scope or can you do with a 24 or 16? adjsutable objective is a must for a AG scope. Below i have linked some good places to look for a quality scopes and excellant prices. Plus accessories one might want in the future as well.
